Healing Trees?

A while back, I was working on a little map that I hoped might become the beginning of a campaign staring a Human faction of my own design. I had icons, some skins, and some models, as well as a few spells. As their tier one unit, I wanted a mage, specifically, a Geomancer. His level one ability was to be an auto-cast ability that would allow him to heal trees. Of course, since trees are not player units, he would not auto-cast, but that wasn't the problem. The thing was, I could find no way to get him to heal trees. The spell was set to allow trees as a target, and all that, but it would not let me select a tree to heal. Any ideas on what I could do to rectify this? Many thanks.

Off the cuff, I think that the only spells that can target trees are those that originally do in melee. You can remove tree-targeting from those abilities, but likely can't add it to something else.

Hmm... perhaps by messing around with the Gold Mine ability I could create a player controlled "tree". That would serve my purposes and the implications of that would fit with my lore... but I hope a different solution can be found. Btw, thanks, Panto.

Why not use triggers and the eat tree ability. when tree is eaten, make a new one!
