WIP Hugo Eberstark: Demolitions

I was over at conceptart.org and was reading their game design forum, and this character was mentioned. This was how he was described (original thread here):

Quote:
Hugo as said above is an explosives expert. His working environnments MAY HAVE included mechanical type workshops, the great outdoors, derelict buildings, etc etc.
I picture Hugo as a well built man, 6ft tall, broad in stature, short rugged hair, pale-olive weather beaten skin, grey eyes and unshaven -a '9'o'clock shadow across his face. Tough hands, and a noticable presence. He is humble in his work, but takes no bullshit. He knows his imprisoned fate was a set up, but he is dealing with it best he can. He has not seen his family since being imprisoned, maybe his wife moved away with his children. The close relationshiop with his family is growing very thin...
He has a moody and quiet persona, he does not need to talk until he has something to say, but when he does, its direct & honest - winning his trust wont be easy... He likes a quiet drink, and has a fondness for cigars/cigarettes - yes I know he's an explosives expert, but his life is ALWAYS on the edge, so a few home comforts wouldn't go astray.....

His clothes are ALWAYS of a military style, even as a prisoner, his appearence is more outstanding than most. He dresses for function, not fashion. He wears an army-style shirt or tunic tucked into combats with the usual side-leg pockets, belt loops and buttons. He also has managed to obtain a body warmer, (he has the gift of the gab, and can always make the usual prison deals..) which in turn makes his physical appearence a lot wider than usual. Combat boots, matte shine, no effort taken in their maintenance.
Respect to him is required, or he will not help you out...

And this is how I saw him:

I know on the thread it says not to start a concept for him yet but my work is nowhere near the calibur of art that the people at CA display so I'm probably not even gonna show them, at least not until other people start drawing him.

So far this has been about an hour's work. Half an hour sketching and inking and scanning, and then another half hour of painting so far. I dunno why some people frown upon using the magic wand tool. Magic wand = more sleeping time, which I really should be doing. This is like, my third time actually coloring something on the comp. My color theory is horrible.

Oh well. Comments and crits please.

Hmmm... interesting...

Although I have to say that he looks a tad bit too much like Guile from Street Fighter.

And your coloring is fine.

The size of his pecs don't quite match the size of his arms though... they look small...

I guess he does a little huh? Never thought about that. well army dudes almost all look the same. I wanted him to look older, like mid 40s to 50s, so I changed the hair color, and I'm having trouble drawing stubble *rhyme*.

great..

but it doesn't seem as good as your other pictures in my opinion....

the pockets on the side of his pants are small.... compared to real army pants.... but yea....

*psss* make it a rothco pattern so it matches with his hair

If anyone else wants to try coloring it, the lineart is here:

Thanks death. It's been inked already so there's not much I can do to the actual picture.
