Guest | I have 3dsmax 6, not 4, so I cant use the Warcraft Art tools. I'm not interested in going thought the whole process of slow importing and exporting from one program to another. Information seems to get lost from each stage. I only want to make ORIGINAL models from scratch. I'm a computer games designer, so I'm well trained in modelling and texturing. All I need is someone to help me get the models into the game. Perhaps someone with the art tools. I take commissions. Is anyone interested? |

If you get it all nicely set up, I can export it/them. The only potential problem is that version 4 can't always open .maxs saved by version 6. I'm not sure exactly what causes it to not work (or if it ever works). Alternately, you can use DeX, which evidently does a decent job of exporting for version 6. I've never used it myself. |

Guest | I think that there are plugins to allow saving .max files to be accessible in earlier versions. I'll look into it and get back to you soon. Is there anything that you would like to be built? Goblin Handglider? How would you like the models to be rigged / animated, if at all? |

If there was something I wanted made, I'd just make it. So, it doesn't really matter to me what I'm exporting. See the art tools documentation PDF for how to set up things to be animated. I'll also attach an example or something I have (partially) animated if that helps. |

Guest | I have been trying to use the Dex exporter, but the animations don't appear to get exported with the mesh. Without the art tool plugins for skinning, textures, and mesh properties, there is a severe limit to the amount of work that I can do. If you still want to help I can send you one of the models that I have been working on. |

Ok, you can just send it to me whenever and I'll export. My email is oinkerwinkle at gmail.com if you want to send it that way. |

Hm, he has a good point. Did you try following the DeX tutorial or the art tools requirements when you tried to export? I don't think they'll be interchangeable at all. |

honestly exporting with dex and art tools is the same thing, only 2 diference are that you set note tracks at exporting using dex and materials/textures must be edited in mdl. |
