Okay, heres my resume and stuffy.. Name: Way Preferred Name/SN: Scyze Age: 13 Experience: I can do most things with the World Editor if I want to, I know GUI well enough to do anything I would need to do in most maps. Been mapping for 2 years. Coding Experience: Nada. Activity: Very Active (on almost daily) Motive Towards Mapping: I tend to have the popular problem of starting a million maps and never getting farther than 20% without a plan. Wants: An active sage/apprentice/teacher/whatever, who (obviously) knows more or alot more than me. Preferably also knows JASS, and can humble me in just about every aspect of mapmaking. o.O Also, not arrogant, and hopefully has a bigger IQ than a sugar snap pea. - Scy (I'm posting slightly off-topic here because mostly what I want to learn is (more) advanced triggering and possibly JASS.) |

Guest | http://www.wc3campaigns.com/showthre...061#post622061 ... I never posted in that topic but I cannot see how you are going to get a mentor whom knows more than your current knowledge to take you under his wing ... - I just got that link from looking at your profile's reputation. The reason we protect maps is so that noobs don't make a thousand copies of it ... my maps are open-source - all the triggers are free upon request - all you have to do is ask. However I shall not release my map without protection because I can see a thousand noobs making copies faster than I can move my eyes ... *cough* arkguil ... mauls ... early versions of dota. But anyways ... I'm arrogant, and an asshole when it comes to wc3 map making as I do not have the time to teach someone ... you know you would be better off to keep making maps you do not finish, god only knows I have a couple of hundred ... then when you find one you actually do finish, you know its going to be good because you have all the experiance of the maps beforehand. |

I agree with Sorrento. Although I do not make a million maps, I have attempted at 3, and finished one. The 3 took me less than a week to attempt at. The triggers worked nicely.. but it just didn't seem right. The finished one took me a year. Yes a year, I've worked very hard on giving all 48 heroes (and two hidden ones.. making 50) 4 custom spells each. 3 normal, one ultimate. Thats in all, 220 custom spells. There are many triggers on the map. But because of all this hard work, I too am afraid to release it. I've been told it's fun as a hero arena, because unlike other "I'll kill u" ones, it contains more suspense etc. But the problem with it? It has no tomes. Yes I hate tomes. But thats not the main problem. The biggest problem is I'm sure that once I release that map, a copy of it with MY name removed, but still using my map title will be relased, with everything unchanged except EXTREMELY cheap tomes. That will ruin the game, but guess wut? It happens ALL The time! So... teaching triggering, or even taking time to teach at all is just out of my question. I believe many others feel the same way. |

Guest | Well yah thats just it, over the years I have made hundreds upon hundreds of maps ... and now I actually have one that is going to be finished, and I know it ... mainly to the fact that it is finished, in Beta stage and only requires me to make more heros for it. And I am going to release this one because I figure I have had enough of Guinsoo's lacking abilities in modding Dota. Now I do not foresee my map becoming as popular as Dota, nor in taking Dota's place ... however if I give him some strong competition to make him work harder then it will be worth it. |

Aye, I suppose that I can find nobody to be my mentor save for a select few people... And theres more methods of unprotecting from my experiences (ever try unprotecting NotD? I still couldn't get in), and if I ever learn how to unprotect them, I'm just going to keep the information to myself. I fear that my tutorial might have done too much harm already, but I'm pretty sure that not many people will actually have gone through the trouble. I have gotten quite a few emails not understanding how to view the JASS triggers, so that comforts me by the fact that the public isn't a bunch of map stealing idiots. |
