couldnt resist... okay, first of all, most of you will think grafity when you hear street art... thats wrong. street art is a little diffrent from grafity, though ofcourse the two flow in and out of eachother. to explain the diffrence, first of all grafity is verry self-centered, and only for grafity lovers. it usually consists of only texts, wich are basically unreadable for anyone thats not doing it theirselves. grafity is about getting heard ans respect, tag your name on anything that provides a good surface, spitting in the face of anything or anyone. the biggest diffrence with grafity and street art is not the place, street art is still (mostly) illegal business... but, it provides much more freindly and illustrative images. its not about the name anymore, its about art. its about gettinbg your pictures up for everyone to vieuw, not just to get respect in the grafity scene. and thats exactly what i love about it, and started practicing street art instead of grafity, and instead of spaypaint now i mostly use posters and stickers to get my art seen. what i want for this thread, is for you all to go out, and always bring a digicam. when you see street art, something pretty that just catches the eye, take a picture and post it. i just want to open all of your eyes for the beuitifull and sometimes verry small, allmost hidden art that is being practiced on streets and in parks around the globe. some example of the stuff i make: small stickers, these things are about 15X5 cm or something: made with 0.5 mm markers. and, an example of a poster, these can vary in size. biggest i've ever seen was like... i dunno but it was big. this one is just a page out of my book to kinda give an idea of what it looks like. made with a bigass marker (no idea bout the actual size, but at its thickest i think the thing is at least 2 cm...) my stuff you might encounter on the streets of Utrecht or Amsterdam, here in holland. my personal favorites are by far the 'london police', a crew from amsterdam that make these awesome works... example (spraypaint and markers on roof example2 (T-shirt example3 (indoor marker marklar example4 (posters in the wild example5 (markers in the wild the characters they use are called 'the lads' and they work with markers exclusively. yes, even the big ones. interesting sites: www.ekosystem.org www.woostercollective.com www.banksy.co.uk good luck, i'll post some stuff in action when my camara is recharged... |

If I may be so random, do you need street cred to buy street art? |

street art is not for sale... its free, its out there on the streets. its there for the fieuwer to find. the purpouse of this thread is to try and open peoples eyes to it and make clear that its more then just grafity nowadays. |

Hah, don't worry Marco i got your joke -- street CRED; BUY street art.. i got you. But yeah, there's no street art or even too much graffiti around the small suburb that is my town; and that's why i want to be the one to start the revolution here XD After i start doing some stuff, i'll post it here. . if its any good that is. Awesome idea for a thread erwt, keep on coming with your stuff, and everyone else start posting some too. |

hey erwt Im really lovin the street art. Heh I use to draw on stickers too. Well not actully stickers , but you know at the post office, they got those stickers you post when you shiping some thing. Im usally a cool melow guy and let things slide, but some of your comments really agitates me. I don't like how your categorizing and sterotyping graff artists. coments like " first of all grafity is verry self-centered, and only for grafity lovers" "tag your name on anything that provides a good surface, spitting in the face of anything or anyone." Not all taggers are 50 cent with guns and spitting on peoples faces. I beleive some graff artists are really talented. There not just doing it to wreck stuff up, and getting known. Some graff artist really love what they do. Why else would they be spending so long on their pieces. Sure graffiti is pretty dead now, but I dont think that gives you the right to bash it. What if I said Street Art is for pussys, and they are just wannabe graff artist. They are afraid to draw stuff on walls so they draw stuff on stickers. honestly I really like the street art. It looks like graffiti characters with out the letters. Im just giving an example. Categorizing plp into groups like that is very narrow minded. I think next time you should be a little more open minded before saying graffiti is this or that. |

i fail to see the serious difference between the two. I think that this street art thing is just the same as graffiti just quicker to put up and easier to get your name or message across, and also with less chance of getting caught. . but hey, then again i'm just that dumb kid that sits in the corner of 3rd grade classrooms.. oO |

Guest | It's basicly GRAFFITI without the skill, time, or effort. Oh, and thanks for essentially not understanding the most basics of graffiti. I'd say you're from some really cool state like Oregon, and Oregonians have skill with the spray can. I mean fuck... if other folks from Holland have skill. Moon_Lunatic: We don't diss Oregonians here. Oh and try to keep happier posts please. |

i never said grafity artists dont have skill... not at all, i respect them with all i have, and i used to do a lot of grafity myself, i even still have some cans laying around right now, and a big collection of markers in all shapes, sizes and colors (never got really skilled with a can, but my markers skills are quite nice...) the diffrence in grafity and street art is not about skill, it isnt even all about form, its about what they say. i knew people would go and moan about it, but its there. the big diffrence between street art and grafity, is that street artist really do it for the art and the enjoyment of a bigger audience then grafity artists. usually the techniques differ as well, and street art tends to be more friendly looking... the thought behind it is what makes the diffrence. you make it to get your name out there to seal off and expand your terretory, your a grafity artist. you make it for all people to see (and enjoy) it becomes street art. i know its a bit hard to explain and all, but if you dont respect street art at least check out www.banksy.co.uk and let ur mind be warped. and even if you are hardcore spraypaint, admiot the london police are cool ^ ^ |

heh no need to explain. I was kinda sleepy when I read that post. I might have misintepret. I can kinda understand now, you was just trying explain the difference. I thought you was delibrately bashing graff to make street art sound better, more sophisticated. some crap like that. ahh I think all crazy sometimes :\ I don't really care, but some of my good friends were really into that. I respect all forms of art, If people are doing it it must be good for a reason right. yah that street art thing looks kind of fun. It certainly looks more healthy. Anyway ill just keep my mouth shut from now on. It just seems to cause trouble when I open it I think wallfly needs to chill =/ |
