Great stuff man. My favorite, hands-down, is the girl in the second picture. Although, looking at it, the Lulu fanart is awesome stuff too. I don't really have anything to criticize.

Good job on the procrastinating mate! Looks like I'm not the only one in that boat.

It would be kind of tricky coloring that in PS, because there are some greys in there. If you set a layer to color, you could try thatm but it doesn't work over white places. Yeah, I don't know what you'd do if you wanted to keep the lines intact. Your best bet might be to just paint over the thing.

Great stuff Kimichi, that Lulu is the best Lulu fan art I've seen by far.

Great job. On your first picture, I am not sure what is drawn there but it looks really good anyway. On your second picture, you did a really good job on the women's body. Good proportions and shading. The mans face is also really well done, you are really good a facial expressions. On your third picture, the demon guys is awesome, really good eyes. On your Lulu picture, I agree with Moon that it is the best fan art of Lulu I have seen so far. Of course, your last picture is the best one. You do stomachs really well, and you don't oversize the hips or make the waist really thin like some other people do.

hey guys thx for the replys. i wish you guys would crit more. I guess ill crit my self
I think i need to work more on my forms ( shading) It still has a 2d feel. I want that shet to be popping out of paper =).

Ogre: procrastination, haha im just trying to get by doing any kind of scribbles . I dont really have time to be doing long anal, super perfect type of stuff.

Thats why I was I was thinking about going digital. Digital is so freakin fast 0_0. Its like tweeking out on video games, with all the buttons, layers, and gizmos :god_help_us: .

I just found out that you can use eye dropper with the ALT key. lol All this time my ass was going all the way to the I key. I like to stay near my Ctrl Z key

Maybe you can help me with some thing. How do you combine two diff images?

For example, I have a character on one file and a background on another file. And I would like to combine them together.

The only method I know is to put the two layers on one file, make the top layer's opacity low, and erase out the foreground or background. That way is kinda tedious, maybe you know a faster method?

sorry for the technical questions =/. Hows teh art school?.

Moon Lunatic: Lulu is so hot with that pale skin and big boobs =). I dont think i did justice to the orginal character. I think im going to try Kimahri next.

Pitlord: hey yah im kinda anal about poportions, sometimes I wish I wasn't.

how's the art school? It's going fine, I suppose. I find it hard to draw for myself when I've been drawing in class all day. Otherwise, yeah, it's great. Except Art History, because I have this final paper I have to do, and it's kind of dry. Well, I picked the Bayeux Tapestry, so because it invovles the battle of Hastings, maybe it won't be that bad.

Digital is awesome for how fast it is. I didn't really appreciate this for the past three years, because I hardly ever worked traditionally. But now that I don't do anything on the computer for class, I really miss the ease of use and speed.

Hah, yeah, the infamous alt key. Shit, at least you were using the I key. I started out with Paint Shop Pro when I was a young lad, and I used the mouse to go to Edit->Undo if I needed to undo something.

Combining two images? Well, there are probably as many ways to do that as there are filters in photoshop. Perhaps, not that many, but you get the idea.

Here's the first one; it probably will only take you a few seconds. But keep in mind that the results might not be satisfactory. Depends on the Image.

If you want to remove the foreground of an image from its background, go to Filter->Extract. What you do here is basically go over the edge of the element you want to retain. Go to the right and select smart highlighting. After you've painted the edge green, take the paint bucket and fill in the enclosed area with blue. Go to ok, and then everything you didn't want will have been erased from the layer.

It's kind of touch and go with this method, though, so see if it works for you.

The second method I might prescribe will actually require some involved manual labor.

Take your two images and put them on different layers in a new file. The foreground should be on top, naturally. Now, on that layer, go to Layer->Add Layer Mask->Reveal All. If you don't know what a layer mask is, I'll briefly explain. Otherwise, skip ahead to the next paragraph. A layer mask will either reveal or hide parts of the layer. Because the layer mask is in grayscale, there can be varying amounts of this hiding or revealing. By default, white means revealed, and black means hidden. Varying levels of grey equate into varying levels of layer opacity for those particular areas, with of course darker greys being less opaque and lighter greys being more opaque. So you can see how this would be useful and is actually a very powerful tool. You can use any brush you might normally, and vary its opacity and flow. For a feathered edge, you can use the airbrush, for example.

The figure you'll want to leave in white, and the areas to be "erased" will be painted over in black. Make sure you have the layer mask selected. This will be in realtime, so you won't actually see the black and white you're painting onto the mask; those areas will simply be hidden or revealed. Use different brushes for the different areas. Hard-edged would be useful for some edges, while something less opaque or an airbrush sort of deal will be useful in others.

I recommend the second method, because you have more control. The first method is essentially a filter at heart, and because it is automated, you don't have a lot of control and must leave it up to the computer to figure out what goes and what stays. With the layer mask method, you can really do anything you want.

Hope that helps. More questions, just send them my way. I don't mind the technical questions one bit.

I think you should look into working with bigger figures instead of putting 2 -3 on a page now to really start crammin' details. (That's my crit)

Thx Photoshop Master Ogre

I dont really understand it right now, but ill think ill understand it better when I try it out.

Beam: LA wow everyone is like moving out of hawaii. Maybe i should move too. I really don't have anything left here anymore.

Yah i been intrested in Art Center or Art academy in sanfransico. Damn freakin expensive! Im not sure but its like 5 grand a semester.wtf thats like 2 years community college tuition right there.

Anyways my friend said his communtiy college has some good art classes. Probally gona take some classes there. Test the waters, see if art is really my thing.

Kinda nervous I dont like drawing in front or with other people. I got Palmar Hyperhidrosis ( sweaty palms) so that shet is gona cause alot of problems.
O gawd I hope we don't use charcoal :o .

Moon: thx yes more eye exploding details

Candy: Damn candy you so 1970 get with the times =). Lulu is from Final Fanstasy X. Kinda like this game its kinda like hawaii.

Yeah, I suppose the written description of masks might not be too easily understood, but it's easier than it sounds. Once you start playing with it, it should be clear.

5K per semester? USD, no less; that is expensive. Well, because of our education taxes, my schooling is considerably cheaper. One of my teachers is from Poland, and because it was in communist hands when she was growing up, her education was free. For that matter, post-secondary education still is free in many of those European countries with more socialist tendencies.

I was hoping I wouldn't have to use charcoal either, but no such luck. Because we work so big, it really isn't practical to expect to cover an 18x24 sheet with a dinky little graphite pencil. We are taught to be more expressive. For that matter, I prefer using black conte to charcoal. Plus I work on newsprint in class because I'll be damned if I'm going to spend money on good paper. Dragging a pencil across newsprint sets my teeth on edge for some reason. That, and because graphite is usually kind of hard, it can rip the paper.

Candy: Lulu from Final Fantasy X; I've never played the game, but I'm familiar with the character. Try googling her up.

You don't need a lot of pencils to do good things with them. Just good control of them. If I want that smooth, photoreal look, I might use 2H, HB, and 2B. But an HB should suit you for most needs.
