Okay, I tried making up another skin for the gargoyle, only modifying basic things like colors, brightness and saturation. Here's what the skin looks like:

Now, here's what it looks like in a game (also look at the portrait):

Can anyone explain what happens? Thanks!

Check out the tutorials on skinning, it looks as though you mucked up the alpha channel.

Just convert the skin to .blp and use a lower value on the skin detail/quality... always works for me (I use wc3viewer).

If your using adobe (im assuming this cause i get the same problem) if you try to make see-through layers you get errors like that. you have to flatten layers also.

Alpha channels are also considered a selection area. In photo impact, anything you want to be visible should be part of the selection area when you save it. You can use this to edit out things too, like horns or weapons.

When you open a skin using photo impact, you can save the selection area, and reload it when your finished, to perfectly preserve the alpha channel.

Oh yeah....I have a tutorial showing this.

i think it's the alpha channels you might have fiddled with them accidently

it could be:
a.) You messed up the alpha channels.
b.) You campressed it to .blp a little wrong, you set the quality of compression too big (in wc3v you should set it to 85)

but mostly (i had that problem too) i just set the compression quality to 85 and it was ok.

I had the same problem just today with the skin not showing up in mymap. It's a very easy fix actually. assuming that you did everything ese correct (not messing with alpha channels, saving on higher quality then 85, or not flattening your layers with Photoshop). Just load your skin into you map and put in the correct path by clicking "Use Custom path" under the File importer file properties (I assumed you already have the path correect, or else this wouldnt happen). Try placing the unit in WE and see if the skin works. If you get this black thing with only the team colors showing up, then simply save your map, Exit WE, reopen WE, and reopen your map. THen try placing the unit again. It should work now.

The problem is fixed since a while, I saved the skin with WC3 Viewer and it changed something with alpha channels and it worked.

heh, 10 people say the same thing, and then you come along and repeat them AFTER the problem is resolved. What an idiot.
