Colored Succubus (Nudity)

I know I should be doing my history paper and my design project, but bugger that. I've had a couple of images kicking around on my HD from the New Media Coloring Book, and decided to finish this one. Lines were by Phuzion I think.

I wanted an opportunity to play around with brushes again. I don't know if this is too dark or light, because my monitor has seen better days. Or maybe it hasn't, and it's always been this crappy. I try to calibrate it with adobe gamma, but whatever.

Comments or criticism appreciated.

Whoa, good job man

About the brightness: Looks perfect here, the calibrating seems to be successful :)

The thing I'd say that I like most about your colourations are the lighting effects.

Great to see you posting. I'd like to see more line work from you, but your colorings are always great and inspiring. I have to say though, I don't really like the atmosphere. I think it's just the background I don't like. But none the less, very well done.

@Warteck: Thanks. Maybe my monitor's gamma is set correctly after all. It's just frustrating painting something and thinking it looks one way, and then finding out that your perception of the colors was wrong.

@icbm1987: Thanks. Lighting is at the heart of everything. Basically, when you paint or draw, you're painting the light as it hits the object. It's an important fundamental thing to keep in mind always.

@Moon_Lunatic: Thanks. Hah, more line work from me? Coloring is like a crux for me, because I hide behind it. Hell, I don't think I've seriously drawn something just for myself in quite some time now.

I appreciate your saying so, but what about the background do you think is weak? Is it just the colors and presentation, or that red swirl on there? I added that as an afterthought, just as an experimentation, and I wasn't entirely sure myself if I liked it or not. But the coloration was looking like it lacked something without it, and I was too lazy to draw a real background.

Serendipitously, I suppose I could say that it is part of a whip that extends off the screen, trailing from the rod in her hand. Maybe . . .

Ha i've seen that one. it's in my inpirational images folder.

cool coloring job ogre. love the dramatic lighting. i think you should define the horns more, as i didn't really notice them until i looked at it two or three times. the color is too close to the hair color. also, it'd be cool if you could do the stereotypical but definite seller "glow around the eyes" technique. I'd also expect that there'd be some sort of light coming from her laser whip (there's an idea for a jedi) thing that would show on her body. i think the light you have now is from the whip, but it's still kinda yellow, which makes me think its an environmental lighting thing. more red would probably show that it's coming from the whip.

Really great coloring. Love the light and shading. I think you should add some highlits here and there though ;) Light on her shoulder gives it weird texture with these darder lines there imo.

Looks like our draw off died

@beam: Thanks mate. Actually, her eyes were black as coal before, and my making them glow as much as they are was sort of concessionary. Although true, the effect could be heightened to better effect. I didn't really plan out her horns too well. I'll see if I can make some adjustments, but it's doubtful. And yeah, that "whip" was added after the lighting on her was thought out, so it only works by accident, and even then, marginally. See what happeens when you don't start with a background?

And hah, a jedi dominatrix with a laser whip. Star Wars III is probably too late in development for us to suggest it to lucas.

@theravenguard: Thanks.

@Muoteck: Thanks man. Yeah, some more highlights would probably give it an extra punch, because the lighting I have now is coming more from behind her and less from in front, and it doesn't really match up with anything.

And yeah, I don't know if my playing wround with the textures was beneficial. Painter is probably the way to go if I want to get experimental towards that area.

Truely, it's too bad about the draw-off. I have nothing to say in my defense.

@Armel: Thankyou.

Hmmm, I say it's the colors in the background conflicting with her fleshy tones. I'm sorry I can't put a finger on what it is, but it hurts my eyes for some reason. I think, for some reason the background takes the focus off of the succubus. It could be a personal thing, but I don't really know.

I noticed myself that the red swirls were vying with her flesh tones for attention. Here's one without, for comparison.

And it's brighter, too, for better or worse. I'm not for remembering the brightness and contrast setting I applied to the former before I exported the jpg

Bravo, love both, this is really some great artwork, this must have taken quite awhile to do, I know I would take FOREVER to draw anything as good as that good job :)

Indeed, I like the latter much more.

That is the best interpretation of the that drawing ive seen. Great work on all of it, the color pallete is perfect. My sudgestion would be, however, to add some slight warm colors to the highlights on her skin, as you did on everything else.
