A good map is a rare gift

I have noticed that most people who host maps host either one of the following all the time:

Battleships
Defence of the Ancients
(insert name here)Maul
(insert here) TD
(insert here) TW

Battleships is a fun map if the people don't freaking cheat AARGH!
Defence of the Ancients has potential to be a very fun map if you are playing with the right people. Otherwise it gets very frustrating.
Mauls are just plain stupid. It is fine to have a few versions, but having over fiftey is insane. THE BIGGEST MISTAKE EVER IS WC3 HISTORY WAS NOT PROTECTING WINTERMAUL!
Some TDs are fun, but others are horrible. Many are just copies of another TD with new terrain.
Tower Wars are fun if you are very good at defending, otherwise all you have to do is get some towers, but send insane ammounts of uber units.

The maps that have potential to be fun usually are not, as most pub gamers are your average (noob or otherwise) idiots. I am not saying those maps are bad (though some really are), but I am sick of trying to join a game, just to see a page of noob-made TDs and a bunch of mauls and dotas.

Definition of pub gamer:
A clanless player that mabey does normal bnet games, but sometimes not. About 20% of these people are pricks, 45% are normal people, 5% are good nice people you would like to meet, and 30% are noobs.
30% of these noobs join a clan, while another 5% can't but still want to. The rest become pub gamers. Because they do not care enough about others (as stated below in post 23/24) they will not have the patience to be in a clan with a bunch of other "equal ranks".

Ya Im going to have to say I agree to. Im definitly getting tired of the 4 billion mauls out there and TDs just seem to be getting worse. This is why I praised Jesus when I finially got the ability to host. Whenever I host I always make sure I boot anyone who is being disrespectful and is why on ever map I have ever had anything to do with I have added the ever famous boot function, in most cases in a code that me and a few others know which we use in obs so people can't go removing everyone if they loose. Public Gaming is going downhill but I do my part to try and keep it stablizied as much as possible. :god_help_us: <---- Eh?

Another common one is footman frenzy that I was an idiot not to mention. Most footman frenzy maps rely too heavily on heros, and basically the "footmen" or "grunts, archers, or ghouls" are useless. Why do they call it footman frenzy when you can pick 3 other races as well? I have never seen the original footman wars map.

You only get a 50-50 chance of having a decent pub player.

Frankly I hate battleships. It's about as exciting as watching sloths mate. You can't control you target so all you do is sit somewhere central and hope something dies when it's shot. Or you could *gasp* trade! WOW! I love running back and forth carrying little barrels, it's what I've always wanted to do when I grew up!

DEFENSE OF THE ANCIENTS HAS INFESTED THE VERY FABRIC OF BATTLE.NET!


cmon, you see 80% of the maps hosted are DOTA... its ridicualous

atm im into footmen frenzy, it comes up often enough but not in massive flocks like DOTA (you dont see the exact same version of the game hosted literally 10 times in a row)


i agree with the mauls thing, some are good... others are crud, but its mostly the good ones that are started...

At first i think DOTA was one of the best map's ever, but then something went wrong! and it was.. horrible, lame hero'es, lame skill's sure, they had one or two great one's, but most of them were just-- boring.

i dont have much against footman wars, it can be really fun, if someone doesnt pick demon hunter or warden or something like that.

havent tried battleship, it seems rather boring :S

Ya frenzy is starting to piss me off latley because there is sooo much of it and whenever I play it I get bored out of my skull. Thats why im trying to make a footmen map thats different, like im putting in lots of stuff people wouldn't think to put in so the player have a choice. Like im looking into adding different races but right now In addition to the 4 "Classic" races I added an SC Tier using textures from this site. Everyone always picks the goliath hero.... :\ . And I suppose thats why Im here getting help and such, trying to make things different and better in a desperate attempt to ressurect footman wars.

I kinda liked dota a lot too, the only thing that makes me hate it is all the casters are overpowered.

When you all say DotA you refer to DotA: Allstars I assume. DotA for RoC wasn't that bad but then some moron made AllStars which is horribly unbalanced and loved by all for some reason. Now for some reason everyone refers to it as DotA instead of DotA Allstars which is even more frusterating. I hate how now everyone refers to AoS's as dota style maps . That one statement there identifies a newbie map maker. Footmen frenzy maps are just like the horrible plage of madness maps from StarCraft that we all had to endure for awhile. With more and more map unprotecters coming out even the best of maps are doomed to be ruined (EotA: Twilight, Skibi's Castle TD, Tides of Blood). Playing on battle.net nowadays is about as interesting as slaming your head into a wall, and also simulates the frustration you feel from all the morons on battle.net.

oh yah, i loved the old skool dota - on the RoC and was like the very first multiplayer maps that had .slk editing.

but allstars and CHAOS - they suck, they have infested bnet... i hate them.

footmen frenzy (from the nohunters clan - not those scabby other ones) is a good, well balanced map - it comes up at a flowing rate, not every 4th hosted game...

The thing i hate most about DotA (Allstars), mauls, and crap tds is that they don't leave any room for the great maps to shine, as a member of Clan TDG i've played some pretty rocking maps, but hardly anyone on bnet has ever heard of them.

I cannot stand mauls. I mean - all of these remakes of the same thing, its like im exploring EA's game selection.
