Guest | You can't just open a WC3 model in gmax with "Open File". You need to go to Utilities/MaxScript/Run script and choose the MDX Importer/Exporter. Of course, u have to download this script first and put it in your scripts directory of gmax(or somewhere else, you can always browse to it). I attached it to this message. And note that, to my knowledge at least, you can only export the static image of an mdx into gmax, without skins. (You have to choose static animation and turn off bone rotation - if you don't, the whole model will be messed up) Which means you will have to add the skin and the animations of units yourself, or, what I usually do, copy the skin, bones and animations from the old mdl into the new one, often with some minor editing. If you are confused about mdl and mdx, for now you should view it as this: mdl is an easily viewable and editable format (which you can edit with notepad), while mdx is a compressed, compiled format, in which the model is usually about three times smaller than in the mdl. For exporting the model, you will have to download Dex script and the WC3 File Converter to convert mdls into mdx, but ok, your question was about importing, not exporting ;) |
