Guest | Well, i have been thinking of this project lately and i decided to form a team, to map this project for a Battle.Net multiplayer map: A Pirates map! Well, kind of based on the best-seller: Sid Meier Pirates!, from 1989, remade in 1994 and a new remake was released last month, I think that this can be a really nice experience. Currently, i am novice with map modding, but i can handle the mapping stuff well, If you are interested, contact me, we need now: -Scripter (create scripts for all features) -Modeller (Maybe create model of pirates heros and ships, mainly ships) -Texturer (well, not needed at all, maybe just to help modeller with ships design) -Mapper (not so urgent, cuz i can do it) Its my first map, so i am asking for all this help, i will credit all of you, and i will help on the map on what i can do: host in a webspace, maybe map the islands and mainly develop the map idea ====Added on 12/1==== Scratch of Map Idea: ================== You choose a Nation (Spain, England, Dutches and France, maybe special nations as Aztecs and Portugal) and you get your hero, the Pirate Cap'n. Then you recruit some crewman, and buy a ship, then go hit the seas, your crew will be inside the ship and on sea, the sea battles are just ship vs ship, so you can get more ships as you get richer and make a big fleet. The main deal, is to become the richest and most powerful man of the seas, so you need to fight agains other nations vessels, conquest cities, trade goods between cities, etc etc This is just a scratch, i hope with help of a team make this better and clear, but here are some features that i plan for the map: -Conquest cities, make them your source of profit and be governor of that island. -PvP! - Sink your enemies for good gold! -Find a treasure map and dig hidden treasures! -Trade goods between cities and make gold! -Make your own fleet! -Be a slave trader, conquest slaves in Africa, and sell them at islands. -Be a conqueror, pillage aztec cities or even your enemy nation cities for gold -etc etc and here a scratch for ship classes (will be improved): -Sloop -Cutter -Frigate -Flynt -Merchant Galleon -Galleon -War Galleon -Spanish Galleon Well, some of this features are based on existen games, check for Sid Meier's Pirates!, World of Pirates and for YoHoHo! Guest | tell some more about the story, gameplay, what kind of a map it is, (TD, RGP or something else) and everything. so that the people know what the map is about and can decide if they or if they won't join you. the only thing we know so far is that it is a pirate map, that's all. don't think you can just get yourelf a team and sit back while they do the work. what are you going to do in the project? mapper...well, what do you map? are you a terreiner, object editor, triggerer or something elso i might forget. show something that you did for the map, like terrein or something. can you lead a team? most people take this for granted and don't do difficult about this, but in fact, it can be the differance between succes and failure. now let's see, you need a scripter, modeller, skinner and a mapper. that's quite alot. there are alot of skinners, no problem there. but modellers are very rare. it's most unlikely you will get one. especially when they know nothing about the project. i probally have forgotten some stuff bu..*looks at the time* what! so late! ehh...i gotta go, i finish this fast. ehh...i probally have forgotten some stuff, but it's late and im tired...*yawn* i don't recommend that you start this project, atleast not untill you are more experienced. im off to bed, good night folks. -HolyA*yawn*ngel |

*kicks dust* Damn... I'm late again. HolyAngel already posted... *uhhum* Scripter? Um... what? Modeler, in a Bnet map? That's not exactly the best idea somoene might come up with. New Models is a "no-no" on Bnet, that's just too much. I guess HolyAngel covered most other things -_- -Fladian |

The allmighty twit Fladian. Some of the most successful maps on Bnet are around 2MB and more. Guess why? Not only are they great maps in terms of gameplay, theme, and code, but they also use custom graphics. Fact: A reasonally detailed custom skin is around 100kb. A new model of a unit is 60kb-120kb for heroes. A doodad is under 20kb. Any good map worth its salt is hosted, or has its own site or means of downloading the map. Most people who like to play good, large maps will download them beforehand. Conclusion. Custom models are fine for Bnet maps. Dude, just quit with mixing your social life with your online hobbies. It's pretty sad seeing your troubles of life in your signature. |

Tides of Blood was the most popular AOS map for a long time, it was huge file with custom models and skins. Same goes for Nature's Call: Circle Defence(TD), and Enfo's (ETS) Clan editions (strangely populated by 2 of my worst skins). Both are very popular maps. Coming soon we have Blades and Billets, which is promising to hit the AOS hall of fame. That's got 15 custom hero skins, model imports and icons. Being a graphical artist, I stand by this side of the argument. Every one of my maps has custom graphics. |

Very well, then I will apologize for making the mistake, or anything regarding that subject. It doesn't happen too often when someone backs up his own words... But still, I never played Tides of Blood nor Nature's Recall TD. (rather, I never joined it because I knew how BAD I am in TD's :P) so I can't say much regarding that. |

Not being good at a map doesn't make it unfun. Sure, people prefer games that they can win, or abuse bugs and inbalances, but its nice to jump into a new map and take all the abuse of being a noob, and slowly master the map to get one over them. |

Sorry fladian but I gotta agree with Whitehorn here. The so called good maps without custom graphics isn't really good maps. They're just hyped because a series of asslings like one kind of gametype. And one more thing fladian. The Real Life hints you get from the guys on this forum will only ruin your relationship. Don't go with em, go with YOUR instincts. The people around here are kiddies with no real experience in issues like this. |

I completely agree with that, but the comments which is given by the other people from the map don't really give confidence ;) But also, I am not too fond on TD's either, so I don't really mind if I'm good or bad in it :P |

Guest | Back to the map discussion! ok, here goes the map idea: Based on the best-seller game Pirates!, World of Pirates! map is a new kind of Bnet rpg. You choose a Nation (Spain, England, Dutches and France, maybe special nations as Aztecs and Portugal) and you get your hero, the Pirate Cap'n. Then you recruit some crewman, and buy a ship, then go hit the seas, your crew will be inside the ship and on sea, the sea battles are just ship vs ship, so you can get more ships as you get richer and make a big fleet. Sorry Rev. but I wanted to reply to RightField as a final off-topic post ;) I'm back to your thread afterwards. RightField, I understand that most maps usually are being "cricked" up by custom... um... things. (Any better word for it?) But I learned - quite a time ago, while I was called Dark Dragon - that custom things often produce lag which often makes the map... unfun. As for the final sentence, while I am certainly going on my instincts, I pretty much placed all my bets out there anyway. I am well informed about who I can trust in such situations, and who I cannot. I wouldn't even start listening to some of the "advice" some people would give, but I am more then interested from the advice of other people. It is also pretty easy to see what 'could' be useful by their... reaction on it. And... not all are unexperienced ;) Just... mostly. But by all means, I already went on my instincts before, and messed it up... badly. As for Rev. The map sounds good, reminds me a bit of Anno1602 which I used to play a lot with my older brother when he still lived in the same house. Ahhh~ it makes me feel like playing it again :P The idea is well, and good, but I have my doubts - probably, not just me - how far this'll come. The features in it are very attractive, but as far as I can see right now - which probably isn't far as I'm studying my ass off and I'm tired - they are also quite hard to make. I think people will be better off with the games you linked to instead of a mod for warcraft. It does sounds attractive though... But then again, I usually am against projects based on existing games, stories or anything similar. -Fladian |
