Contests, Random events, pets, item and Horadric Cube recipes ideas for arena

With the new that I planning boosting my hero arena, been thinking on doing some stuff, and requesting your ideas too.

1) Random Events
The arena already has some, but too few, I'd like some ideas of other ones, for me a random event is something that happens, but doesn't require an announcement or anything, and indirectly changes the gameplay for a duration, and in certain of them you can get an artifact as a prize. (artifacts are really good and unique items)

Random events already:
- A titan spawns (temple guardian with umbalanced abilities) defeat it to get an artifact.
- When someone goes to the beach and the event is activated an ancient hydra comes from the depths of the water to attach everything it finds at its path, if you kill the last of the small hydras, you get an artifact.
- When this other event activates a Market place is offering an artifact for 2000 gold.
- Rainning (slows movement speed of every unit by 50%)
- Storm (Rainning + random lightning bolts that damage and may even start fire)
- Armageddon (Incredibly rare : A rain of fire on the whole map)
- Some of the temple guardians become temple guardian shamans that are able to revive other temple guardians.

- Need more ideas, please

2) Contests
Such a thing like, an announcement is made, telling that the player that gets able to do XXXX stuff, will win a reward:

Current IDeas:
- Flag domination : A creep spawns with a flag, When you kill it you can get the flag into your inventory, if someone kills you, you drop the flag, now the guy that has the flag after 3 minutes wins
- King of the hill (much more of king of the center) the team with more heroes at the center after XXX minutes wins.

- Need a lot more.

3) pets

Will be like diablo ii mercenaries, but will be heroes with creature models, and if you can please tell me wich spells they can have, they will improve as a hero and be able to pick 3 items, though they aren't mandatory and you sacrifice experience that may go to your hero . I am planning of calling them legendary heroes officially, but indeed they are pets

Need ideas

4) Items
Plan to increase the number of new items by 400% , need tons of :
- Purchasable item ideas
- Charged items
- Permanent
- Artifacts
- Powerups

5) Horadric cube recipes , yes my arena will have a horadric cube, the easy part, getting the horadric cube to work, is already done (http://www.wc3sear.ch/index.php?p=Spells&ID=679) , the difficult part, which is the recipes is not.

Please if you have a good recipe idea that uses wc3 items and probably the new items you suggested, tell me.

BTW , I already have amethysts , diamonds, emeralds, rubies, and saphires in the items.

I can think of a few contests, though I'm not really thinking of anything good for the other areas.

1) You could have a protection contest, where a unit spawns that one team needs to keep alive and the other team needs to kill. This could be based on keeping it alive for a duration, or keeping it alive until it reaches a destination (like an escort).

2) This might be dificult to implement, but you could force each team to go to it's "protected" location (where the other team can't go) and have one of two things.
a) You could have a mini-survival contest, where you spawned a number of fairly difficult mobs and whichever team lived longer/killed more wins.
b) You could have a sort of TD equivalent, where mobs run along a set path and they have to use their heroes to kill them before they hit their location. It would probably be best if mobs didn't fight.

3) This idea is a collection contest. Players will try to collect as many of an item as they can and deposit them somewhere (maybe walking onto their telepad will deposit the items and fully heal them for the duration of this contest). The items will work like shadow orb fragments - that is, you can grab up to a certain amount of them and they all stack. It might be a good idea to set a limit to the max number a player can carry.

Basically, gameplay would be the heroes all running out and trying to collect the item, while also trying to stop the enemy team from getting too many. You would need to find a good balance of the number of items to spawn, the max number a hero can carry, whether the items drop (to the ground) on death or if they just disappear, and probably some other stuff.


I won't be insulted if you don't like the ideas and don't want to use them, don't worry. Just trying to be helpful, since I tried out your map and it looked like a quality one (hero arena normally aren't my type, but maybe I'll make an exception :).

Random Events.

Rain - have a 15% lower attack speed rain isnt that bad and maybe you should make a fade filter.. or have varying rain types.

snow - now that should have a fade filter and 50% move speed...

fog - maybe have fog, you know red and yellow etc. maybe have reduced sight radius somehow...

flood - maybe have a flood? you know how you use fade filters and fog effects etc. you could give certain heros advantages and diadvantages eg. the fire mage is rendered useless.

tornado - goes around and throws people in the air and slows them.

virus - you can catch a virus, maybe out of the blue or off a gaudian, what ever... you can pass the virus onto enemy players (you could have it so it removes the virus if you pass it on or you still have it). Then the player must find/buy a vaccine or make on using the horadric cube (use common items for a vaccine... ie potion of healing and something else). the virus can damage you over time and you can also pass it on to allies.

Luna Cycle / blue moon - a special kind of night time... maybe change the guardians to wovles or players get bonuses etc.

night time - at night time there is a random chance that a player will fall asleep... they may or may not be attackable

night time - creatures come out at night time...

assasins - blademasters or something who are invisible run up to you and backstab you

lights out - a heavy / randomly heavy fade filter will be applied to all / random players and they must try and play with very poor visibility (walking into massive groups of enemies anyone?)

Archimode (& maybe the burning legion) attack - very strong, a portal is created in a random spot and stuff. you kill him off, you get good stuff

YOUR ON FIRE - one player catches on fire, and he must run to another player so they catch on fire and you wont be anymore... it will do quite large damage to the unit over time, and if you die the fire will remain a little while longer and any unit that walks near it will catch on fire yet again.


Contests

king of the hill - use the terrain deformation triggers to turn the center into a small mound.

auction (could be random also) - a shop keeper dude will appear (and possibly move) in a certain or random spot... you give him the most expensive item you have... and what ever player gives him the most expensive item will be given a really good item (or possibly a bad one)... this will encourage interesting gameplay, you could give him the most expensive item you own (or possibly in the game) or you could give him a really cheap item and camp near him, stopping any other player handing him an item, thus making you the reciever of the good item.

Dodge / stampede (also a possible random event) - a stampede will run through the entire map, you have to move your hero to avoid it. (custom spell, hidden caster... shouldnt be that hard)

hero killer - must kill a certain number of heros

guardian killer - must kill a certain number of guardians

Race around the arena - they must rush to certain locations and who ever does the circut first, wins.

tag - you must tag other teams / players and who ever spends the least amount of time "un-tagged" wins

vampire - one player will be notified that they have become a vampire and they must harvest a certain amout of units before daybreak or something.

gambling - some for of gambling.. they can lay money items or maybe exp on the line.

It is public but at this moment is at a low beta stage

Well, for contests there could be a modified King of the Hill version where there's a big stone or something that the two teams have to attack, and the more damage is done to the stone, the more points the team gains. So teams have to balance between attacking the stone and stopping others from attacking the stone, or suicide rush the stone and the like, and of course since it counts damage there's a certain amount of imbalance depending on how much damage the heroes do.

Alternatively, you could have decaying stones so that the only hit that matters is the last hit, so whichever team gets the final hit on the stone wins, the other hits don't matter.

Or you could have something along the lines of a hero switch, where for a short time, a certain number of heroes from each side are switched (or you could make it such that one side is made to have the same heroes as the other side). Items would be quite hard to switch so I guess they have to stay the same.

And instead of every event being negative, you could have an event where everyone moves really fast for a short time and attacks really fast too.

Another event would be to make everyone invisible and have really low range true sight, so they can't see each other until they go really close.

You could also have an electric fence event, where the arena is surrounded by a few units and a chain lightning is passed through them (repeating when it hits the first unit again or is "short circuited") so that anyone going too close to the units will have a chance of getting hit by the chain lightning.

i like the hero switch idea...

like make a notice (or not) that goes... "hero switch in..." "3" "2" "1"

and then completely switches units items and all... and then after the period of time the heros return with all the items in tact etc.

the electic fence idea would be great aswell.. but make it appear in random spots, cut off the heros in certain areas etc.

but dont make the penalty death, because it could be a means to get to your base area... my suggestion would be a moderate length stun or a really strong slow spell.
