about map directories...

Well, I've seen that the retail version of War3 uses only 1 directory to store all the maps:
"Warcraft III\Maps"
and "Warcraft III\Maps\Scenario" for scenarii.

I think it'll be a real mess if we all make new maps and put them in that directory. That's why I think the communauty should agree on a specific directory where we'll put custom maps.
What about:
"Warcraft III\Maps\Custom"?

Sounds good to me. But you will have to do 3 things to make it work:
1. Post this on every customization/map site, and major war3 sites in general
2. Announce it (repeatedly) on Battle.net, perhaps making a bot to announce it once every few hours in each channel (and leave it up forever)
3. Have the zips on the download pages automatically put maps in the \custom folder.

It won't be easy.

Hopefully, Blizz will fix this issue with a patch. Or maybe the program will save them in download, but won't create a download folder until you download a new map. That's how other Blizz games worked in the past - Starcraft, War2BNet, I think. I don't have the retail, so I can't test downloading a map off bnet.

It does goto download. And if you have the map on your comp and in the wrong directory it still works.
I've tested it with my little map I made and played on lan with my bro.

Actually, any map in your maps directory will work. I've had a map I made in the directory 'test' and it recognised it when someone else tried to have me download it.

What I'm wondering is if I have all the map I downloaded in my "custom" directroy and the player who host the game has the map in his "maps" directory, will it download the map even if I have it somewhere else?
and anyway, if any downloaded map goes in a same directory which is not where all the official maps are, that's fine for me...

Yeah you won't dl it again, and all dled maps goto download directory.
