The Abyss, team members required.

The Abyss has been an ongoing personal project (with contributions) for some time. Due to this is has been pretty slow, and changes concept and ideas as often as I change clothes (yeah, two changes so far!).

The idea is to add two (or more) groups to Warcraft AND to alter the mechanics of melee.

The two races that have had work done are the Rictus and Iron Nation.

The Rictus are a hive mind of demonic undead. Most appear as variants of shades, liches, wraiths and void demons, but a servitar race of mutated elven heretics do serve them.

The Iron Nation is an unholy alliance of Dark Dwarves and an evil caste of goblins. They work both with machine and dak magics to pose war upon their enemies.

Other races have been proposed, but no real amount of work has been put into them, so they lie barren and open for later brainstorming if to be considered in any optimistic contingencies.

Part 2, the mechanics are to be altered towards a more realistic combat system. This is reflected in:

• Lower health rates
• Higher damage rates (and damage ranges).
• Natural chances to critical strike, parry and dodge.
• Varied and thorough natural and killed abilities (and passives) for all units.
• Territory-orientated gameplay. Nodes, camp sites, ruins exploration, creep bosses, etc.

These two goals would complete the Abyss, but part 1 (creating the races) would be a seperate completion, delivering a great add-on pack for any other mods out there.

What do we need?

We need people who like the above ideas, to read, discuss and propse ideas.
We want modders to step forward and offer to assist in the development of the mod.

I can probably help you out a bit, but don't count me in as a normal team member. Also I won't do anything untill after christmass.

I didn't expect you to start any project by now Whitehorn. I expected that you've given up about modding because "wc3c is dying" (-Jester) but even so, an idea as this is clearly supported by me.

The features sounds good, and very attractive. I haven't seen the "eye candy" as you claimed it, since I'm at my brother's place, but knowing you, it should be of (high) quality work.

I do have comments on it though. Why are you in need of a story writer? Right now is the main priority to complete the race, not to create a story for it. As you said yourself that the completion of the race would be a "completion" itself, so I suggest to completely focus on the race before anything else. Anyone with the intelligence of a mere glass of water (or at least someone with a creative mind) should be able to come up with a story that would at least introduce two different races. Knowing myself as a story writer, I should be able to think of a decent story in a small time, and I am pretty sure there are multiple talented people in stories as well but by all means, just focus on one thing first.

But the usual comments I have (those both positive as negative, which are both very unfit in a clear thread as this, excluding to praise, but I'll rather skip that ;)) can be skipped now. I was already definitely sure that someone as experienced as you, Whitehorn could easily write an accurate thread and at least get a decent team together in a not all too long time - decent is the right word seeing as most experienced members are either unactive or already left as you are aware of, Whitehorn.

Wc3c is dying, but its the biggest gathering of modders still. I was hoping to catch the attention of new people, or anyone who happens not to visit my own site.

Story writers. I've had so much 'project planning' shoved down my throat at University that I fully appreciate the fact that projects don't get made up as they go along. I'd like story writers to help nail concepts, tie races and ideas together and produce background. This should be done before any thing else, but my art and models do help in the progressing of ideas (and are often just results of boredom).

Thanks for offering RF, quite unexpected. A lot of work has been contributions and 'part-time' help from members, so you'd fit right in by that respect.

Even though it might have been the largest gathering of modders (or actually, still is) it will be a lot less active because of the arrival of WoW and other high rated games. The intention and idea of the project is good none the less though.

Well, I didn't really have the best time at school (which is considered 'high school' in some nations, 'college' in others) and I'm covered by most problems as well, so I am well aware of whatyou mean.
Fact remains that I've nearly completed a detailed world (every details is in it, you name it) which I am pretty proud of (took me months of time) and as you can see then, I am well aware of what you mean, but that was not my point of saying.
Even though your art models may indeed increase the variaty and use of the story, it will be the concept art that will play quite a role - probably - as well in this case.
...I might give a hand, if you want though, but even if so, I will have to deal with some... problems first as you are aware of as well.

i can help, i skin and i geo merge (im still new at this moddeling, so im not that good) . i really like this, i have imagination (im a bit of a story writer). now that is out of the way i show some of my skins ofcourse.
first one is was for a contest, second is a pirate, but still wip.
hope i get the job, and if not, too bad i quess.

White, I'd be willing to put some time into this for you. As of now, I can't do anything, because of school. Once Christmas break starts, BAM! I can help out. Until then, I can formulate some ideas in the boring classes I take. If you haven't seen any of my work, I'd be more that happy to post some links to a gallery of either my skins, art, or geomerges. I can also do some modeling in gmax. I am currently working on a Trebuchet for Ominous Horizons, and various other failed attempts at box modeling.

What consists of a "good (dark) imagination"?

Hope to see a response, if not, some progress within the next few months.
