Fear Spell: Any Ideas?

Im attemping to make a 'Fear' type spell similar to the ones found in Everquest (making something based on EQ) where the unit comes under the effect of the spell and runs for fear of its life until the spell/buff expires. Can I do that with just spell editing and triggers? I've tried creating one based on the Hex spell but that didn't give the desired effects.

Any help on this matter would be appreciated.

You could create something that adds the Wonder ability, but edit the wonder ability so he runs when u attack him

Logically, I'd say..

- When unit casts spell
- Spell is equal to Fear
- Give target unit of spell being cast Custom Locust Ability
- Order unit to move to region located at center of area 1000 polar range under angle position of casting unit & position of unit being targeted
- Wait 4 seconds
- Remove Custom Locust ability from targeted unit.

Now in theory, this idea of mine would work. Hahaha!
Unfortunatly, my experience in triggering tells me that all my theoretically good trigger ideas usually work out differently, if not at all.

there isnt much need to give the locust ability tho... and if you did you have to store the unit in a (temp) variable.

Well, let me try that out. When I was originally messing around with the triggers I came up with something slightly resembling that. Only difference was the use of some of the WEU trigggers. Either way, thanks for the idea!

Ok, this is what I have for the trigger right now:
Event>Advanced - Unit is Targeted by a spell
Conditions>(Ability Being Cast) Equal to Invoke Fear (Testing Spell)
Actions>Unit - Order (Target unit of ability being cast) to Move to (Random Point in range of (Position of (Casting Unit)), with a maximum range of 900.00)

Will it work? We shall see.

So far it hasen't worked. I've tried different spells, from Sleep to Purge, and it hasen't worked. Anyone have any ideas?

Heres what i would do without calling functions from other triggers ( though it would be somewhat easier and reduces chance for memory leak)

Event: Unit begins casting an ability
Condition: Ability being cast equal to fear
Action: Change owner of [target of ability being cast] to Victim Passive
If: [target of ability being cast] has buff Fear
Then: Order [target of ability being cast] to move to position of [casting ___________ unit] with polar offset by 900 towards [facing angle of casting unit]
Wait .01 seconds
Run this trigger ignoring conditions
Else: Do nothing
