I have the same problem(can't finish a map :D) Well I think you should just have some unique things(unique heroes, unique gameplay) and don't only copy other things. |

Well, for me to keep interested in one map, I do one map while doing other minor fun short maps which are just testing new concepts and stuff so it basically allows you to de-track for a while and then go back to working on your map. If you really feel like you can't possibly live with your map, or think it's not as good as it should be, take a long break from it. For me when I felt that BMMod2 (a sorta-big project) wasn't good enough, I de-tracked and went on to make typing of the dead and shooting of the dead. Those are short maps, like those arcade games, sort of a "single story" short kinda thing, except it's like 15 minutes. I worked on both of them at the same time and when I lost a bit of interest in one, I would work on the other, then switch back. I think it's a good way to prevent people from being bored of creating their own maps since maps like this are: - Short, so it doesn't take much time off creating your big project. - Fun. Try to explore stuff you never thought of doing. It won't be like "WOW" or anything, maybe worth a few tries and nothing much, but it'll be fun to make. I mean, a typing game in warcraft? - Since maps like this aren't one-trick ponies (like tower defense is pretty much build towers and footmen frenzy is pretty much just control stuff and use skills), because you can pretty much throw the player into any type of situation you like, making it won't involve a lot of hard work and repetition and whatnot. And the best part is that you can get some ideas when you're finished, and you're ready to continue working. Well, it works for me, dunno if it works for you. Well, I would love to see a lot more player-player interactions in open RPGs. Not just PvP, but team quests, or quests that conflict. For example, if player1 got the quest "Assasinate thisflabbyguy", then a quest would be available that would be to "protect thisflabbyguy", so only one player could complete the quest, and even better if they never knew someone was stopping them. Or you could have like two factions, not really at war just not very comfortable with each other, and for the more difficult quests you have to slip into the area of the other faction and if a hero from the other faction spots you then he could call the police or whatsnot about your illegal immigration. And of course, even better if a team takes one quest (as a team) and maybe there's a chance that one of them is given the quest to be a mole and secretly stop them but this one could be quite difficult. Just my two cents. |

i have the same problem... my advice on that is play as little of different maps as possible, one that you are afraid my cause you to end the project.... i've done i many of times, i get side tracked because i just played some spiffy kool map and the current map i am working on becomes boring as hell (no offense to my abandonned projects). |
