Guest | Does anyone have source code that can decipher the new MPQ format with World of Warcraft? Or does anyone know a doc detailing what's new? |

Only major thing that I am aware of is that files can be encrypted/compressed as one whole variable sized block rather than the regular method. |

So far, i've been able to open all of the WoW MPQs with WinMPQ with no problems (except for a bug in ShadowFlare's MPQ DLL preventing the program from opening MPQs larger than a gigabyte) |

That's not completely true, I ignored and waited, wel for quit some time, and I was able to open all of the mpq's of WoW beta2 ! |

There are two new format additions that could cause inability to read from MPQs (at least with current libraries). However, neither of these are used in the game MPQs (only the install MPQs), as far as I know. |

Quantam, would you care to elaborate? |

Both have been mentioned in my thread about the new MPQ file attributes format: single block file compression, and new BZip 2 compression algorithm (I haven't actually taken the time to look if that algorithm is actually used in any of the MPQs). Pretty sure no MPQ editor/library supports either of those. |

Guest | Did Blizzard Develop the MPQ archive? It just seems that they release MPQ archives with little or no encryption to prevent moding. Of corse if you arnt using a mpq that jives with them you get kicked and mabie even banned. |

Eh, you'd have a lot of difficulty playing on B.Net and in games with an incompatible MPQ, can result in desyncs and all sorts of minor to major glitches. |
