Guest | Ok, this is probably posted in the wrong forum but it has to do with cinematics so I hope it's right. As for the question: I wonder if it is in any way possible to record a cinematic in WC3 and have it on DVD. I hope someone could help me with this... :god_help_us: |

Guest | OF course there is, but there's one big catch. If you want to your gonna have to scrounge up 30 bucks for fraps and then get a file converter that can convert the fraps file into a DVD file then you can burn it nice and fancy onto a DVD. |

Ok... But is there an easier/cheaper way to record it? I kind of assumed that DVD was the easiest way of doing it. And wtf is "fraps" :/ Besides from a few questionmarks; thanks for your help. |

Guest | Ok I don't know of any less expensive way, I know someone (I think he is retired now) was thinking of running a cinimatic burning thing free out of Britain. But that went to hell. And also Fraps is a video game recording program, it's pretty interesting just search "Fraps" on any search engine. PS-Nice Avatar |

Ok, thanks for the help. I searched on "fraps" www.google.com and found this site: www.fraps.com It says: Quote:

Do you mean if I download fraps from for example that site (www.fraps.com) the file size will be extremely large? And if it will be, is it possible to have that much information on a DVD? |

Guest | Ok. A little update: I downloaded fraps and read the help thingy. There it said that the filesize is huge and that another program has to be used to compromise the filesize. So I downloaded something called VirtualDub and I could compromise the files and convert it into other formats so I think it will work now. And if it doesn't, I'll get back to you. :D The only thing is: what file is "DVD file"? Anyway thanks for the help and sorry for the dubblepost... It would have been a little messy otherwise... |

well, Nobuo said: "Get a file converter that can convert the fraps file into a DVD file then you can burn it nice and fancy onto a DVD." What I ask is what format is DVD. Like sound files has ".mp3", ".wav" and so on. What format is DVD is what I meant. I hope you understand. The thing is that when I click the "compress" option I get loads of formats I can compress the file to but I don't know whitch one I have choose to burn it on DVD. |

Raw DVD video data uses a format called .DOB I believe. I haven't the slightest clue as to how you could convert anything to that format. If DOB isn't available (which I wouldn't think it would be), see if you can compress it to a DivX or XVid AVI file. Search for the codecs on google. Most DVD's (or at least ripped DVD movies) use XVid codec, and a lot of trailers for games and such you see on the net use DivX. And Fraps is free? I thought the free version put a little "Unregistered" in the corner of anything you record with it. |

well, it really depends on what formats the dvd player can read... and if your only using it on your comp, well, then use ANY! |

Ok, it is possible to compress to DivX format but I couldn't find the XVid. But if it is as you say, that I can use any format then there should not be any problems. And the thing with the little "unregistered" thing, I haven't seen anything like that. One last question: If I convert the file to DivX format is it just to burn it over to DVD then? |

many DVD players can read VCD, which is basicly a mpg format. i use nero in VCD mode, it converts and burns it to a CD. |

Did you forget an "e" or is it "mpg"? Because I can find: "Microsoft MPEG-4 Video Codec V1" and "Microsoft MPEG-4 Video Codec V2". And by the way, Iron_Ian; There is a little text in the video that says "www.fraps.com". |
