Dwaves and Goblins - Radical change

Right, here we go, I'll explain how the game plays as best I can, I'll ask Whitehorn to post futher points here as well, it is after all his idea.

You start with a hero unit, it is his job to recruit people to your cause. There are 4 basic types of unit:

Miners
Warriors
Marksmen
Engineers

You gather these people to your cause and can train each of them to be any other class. For example, a Miner could train to be an engineer, or a warrior to be a marksman.

Miners are put in mining loctations, where they gather your resources for you. I will explain more about resources futher on.

Warriors are your melee units and provide the bulk of your army

Marksmen are ranged units and are faster and more stealthy

Engineers Build non organic units for you and maintain them through repairing.

Resources
Now here's the big change. Instead of having gold and lumber, you get armour and weaponry points, which can be assigned to individual units to increase their stats. They can also be used to increase units levels. As units go up in levels, they gain more abilities. Examples:

Miners - At later levels, they have abilities like tunnel and headlamp, doubling them up as scout units
Warriors - They can mount trikes, which are constructed by Engineers
Marksmen - They are trained as medics, so they can heal units
Engineers - They create siege units to take out large groups of enemies.

Experience
Another big change. In order to increase in level or use certain abilities, your units must have enough experience, which they gain depending how long they have been part of your band. Being in combat or near your hero increases the generation rate of experience.

The only building you must defend is the rallypoint that your hero sets. It is here also that the global upgrades are researched. However, resources are not returned to this point.

Think I've covered everything.

Also, none of the currently displayed models will be used. This mod will be completed with the intention of creating many MANY more campaigns and MP maps as well as having campaigns of it's own upon release.

Cheers

I take it that there will no longer be any Gryphons...

And this stuff sounds great!

No plans for flying units, but it may conspire that a crafty Engineer creates a gyrocopter for the units to mount later on

I never cease to be amazed by the speed at which you get responses on this forum :o

Don't you know? This is like a myth. Everyone hopes it will come into happening, but noone thinks it will, and as soon something newcomes up, it gets posted to hell to keep alive.

Well, no need to worry, this will definately be made this time, it's a far more manageable workload for a 3 man team, which is what we have, no matter how I may have deluded myself in the past

Hmm... not sure what to say about this... it sounds interesting. Might be a little confusing if people dont read the instructions here. However, I am wanting to try this.

Things are going pretty slow here.
However, things should be balanced:

Creep menace:
Dwarves vs. Troggs
Goblins vs. Kobolds

Units:

Dwarven Gyrocopter
= Goblin Zeppelin
Dwarven Riflemen = Goblin Sniper
Dwarven trikes = Goblin Shredders
Dwarven SteamTank = Goblin Scorpemech/Juggernaut Shredder
Dwarven Mortar-team = Goblin Sappers
and so on and so on and so on.

If you listen to me, don't make it too dream-steam-techno-cream thingy.

Thanks for that comprehensive list, I remember why I made you a member of the team now...oh wait, I didn't did I?

:P

Na, seriously, thanks for the imput, I know it's going slowly, but that's the pace I like to work at. You wanna help speed things up?
