I've started making a map that is different to other maps that I have seen. It works on the basic principle of tower defences but is not even close to one. Endless waves come at you for an ammount of time, you defend your wall by right clicking on them. However you also get two turrets and up to eight archers to help. Also you can research spells to cast. When you right click on an attacking unit you will attack once, the attacking speed is as fast as I could get it, but is about as fast as I can click. The selected hero shows the life and defence of your wall, it also shows your total repair and magic (mana regen) skill. I have many of the basics in play, and it is suprisingly fun. The enemys spawn on the horizon and attack once they get close. Most of this map is done using jass, not that it needs to be, just because I can. features -up to Ten players -six races - -Demon - -Dwarf - -High Elf - -Human - -Orc - -Undead -High detailed walls - -each wall is unique to its race - -Walls fade to 25% opacity when enemys get close -Multiboard with life bar - -The life of your selected hero is the walls actual life -Two types of archers for each race - -Upgradeable spells that archers automaticly cast (depending on race they cast crippling spells, damage increasing spells, or debuffing skills) - -Can build up to eight archers -Two types of Turrets for each race - -Can build Two Turrets that upgrade seperatly (even if they are the same type) -Four Spells for each race -Workers for constant repair rate - -Limited by food limit - -Upgrade each Worker individually -Mages for constant mana regeneration - -Limited by food limit - -Upgrade each Mage individually -Diverse attackers - -every round will be ballanced with different units - -sappers (exploding) - -Ranged units - -flying units - -Magic casters (cast spells at the wall) - -Seige Weapons -Hero attackers - -they sit on the horizon warching and connot be attacked - -helps allied units with buffs and auras - -summons extra strong attackers - -Near the end of the round they attack, becoming attackable I have implemented some of these features but as I go along I may change them. I would like some feed back and possible names for the map. |

I think Click invasion works. Or you could go "DEFENDERS OF THE MOUSE!!" or something. Just to inform I've something along the lines of clicking in completed maps (Shooting of the dead) and I think this could be quite fun. One thing though, clicking a lot rapidly can get tiring on the fingers. And flat terrain could get a few problems but nothing too major. I also feel that maybe the rate of fire should be controlled so that there aren't mass spam clicking sprees and such. But yah this map could work out to be fun. |

Nice. There's actually alredy a map called "Click Defense", which uses the selection event, so you deal damage by left clicking, and it allows you to upgrade your click to do different things. |

Thanks for the feed back. I really nead a better name for the map, which is the main reason why I made this post. I dont like the current name and I dont want anything like the word "click" in the title of it. Ive actually played one of those maps that have you select the enemy to attack them, this map is done a little differnt. Most of those other maps are based off the arcade style shooting games, mine is loosely based off a game I played on the internet called "Defend your Castle". Defend your castle is a game in which you get attacked by stick figures and you throw them into the air to kill them. I dont use the left click (selection) for a good reason, it has a delay, it deselects the hero (makes it harder with casting spells), and you can click and drag (with right click you actually have to click on the unit). The attacking speed is controled, even though the unit that attacks has an attack point of 0 and no cool down it is told to attack once. By doing so it gives about a half second cool down time, maybe less. I know that just clicking on units gets repetative so thats why I have archers and turrets. But to ballance it the archers and turrets can only attack when enemys get about half way to you (so you cant have them kill every thing before you get a chance), also there will be some some attackes that can only be killed by clicking on them (and spells). When you right click on an enemy you will deal the ammount of damage that the selected hero has on him, but as an incentive to right click to kill enemys, the hero will gain experiance for every attack (based off attacked unit). Also I will make upgrades at the temple that you can get more damage for your attack, and an effect (done on attack) based off your race. Im not sure about the effects (not to that point yet) but im thinking the undead get cripple, dwarves stun, orcs critical strikes, and so on. The terrain I have right now is very basic, but eventually I will make it better. I think I will keep the terrain flat, but I will add barracades and such that will give defensive bonuses while enemys are behind them. But before I waste time trying to make it look good I need to get all the technical things out of the way. I will create an alpha version in a week or so of the map to show why the map is differnt from the others. |

If were going to compete over how far people got, then I win. I am on level 118, with a score of 50 million. What can I say nobody comes in to my work so I have a lot of free time while I"m waiting for customers. But that is the type of gameplay that I want to use, just I want to refine it more so that it gets more difficult the further you go. (the main draw back of what im basing it on was it was too easy) I guess I'll update slightly right now I've hit some delays, mainly because I didnt want to work on it, but there still delays. I will bring a small demo out after I create the system for going between rounds, where people can purchase new units and upgrades. Ive overcome the problem with people trying to left click to attack, Ive simply made the attackers unselectable. Although this adds alot of custom skills and units(for every unit that I spawn I need a custom ability for its unit type), it makes it worth while in the end though. Ive finished the spells for both the demons and the dwarfs, which I will release in the demo. The spells are; Demons Bolt of pain - finger of death with added cripple effect Hell Fire - rain of fire that dosent need to be channeled Doom - doom, only triggers used were to make them unselectable Apocalyse - modifyed star fall, dosent need to bwe channeled Dwarfs Storm bolt - the only untriggered spell, which is also using the original name for now Artilery Strike - modified cluster missiles, shot from a dummy up in the air Land mine - creates a mine that blows up, not much more to say Air raid - creates two flying machines that fly down the path attacking anything close enough to them |

i always wondered what store people did when no one was in there. :) so demon and dwars are the only two races so far thats cool. So when will your demo be coming out |

I'm not sure when it will come out, I haven't gotten around to working on it. I'm not exactly how to go about it, either have a timer between rounds or have people hit esc, or a combination of the two. I have actually gotten the 6 races I said in the first post done except for the spells, and none of the races have upgrades, or any of the ballancing done yet. Edit- I took screen shots of some of the spells, also of the new look of the ground. |

ahhh ok the spells look cool. One thing i finally noticed, it looks kinda funny big road of terrain then suddenly clouds. i dunno what u think if just seems akward to me. anyways you should get like 2 races done so that it is playable for testing :) |

I actually have it looking like that for a reason, although I havent put it anywhere. When the final verson comes out you will understand. Let me put it this way, dont think of this being in aseroth, there is more than just one dimension in wc3, just like outland. |
| 02-04-2005, 12:01 AM | #13 |
dont u mean 2 dimensional. 2D is across and down. 3d is across down and depth but i get what u mean |
| 02-04-2005, 02:29 AM | #14 |
Wrong type of dimension, besides there are alot more than 3 dimensions of the type your thinking. If your trying to tell me I misspeled it then thats because they took the spell checker off this site. |
