Chao Raising!

Ok, now that i've gotten some experience in triggers, I'd like to start a little project. If you don't know what a Chao is, see attached pictures. This map will be based around these little fellows, nad it will involve a fair amount of triggers. I'm off to a good start on the terrain, I've finished 3 of the Gardens (places where Chao live), and I'm in the process of making the fourth. I'l see if I can get some screens up later. Anyways, the game will involve raising a baby chao from childhood to adulthood. You begin in your house, where you will choose a chao. After that you can enter the garden to play with other players' chaos. Your chao can eat fruits to get stronger, fruits drop from trees every little while. Once your chao is ready, you participate in the chao race. (I'l need some ideas for this) As you win races, you earn more money, which you can use to buy small animals or things for your home. Small animals improve your chao's stats, and if you feed them enough of a certain one they will change. Once chao level up enough, they will grow into adulthood. Depending on the fruit fed to them, they will become a Neutral, Hero, Dark or Jewel Chao. The 3 special classes unlock new gardens, and new games. (Dark- Battle, Hero- Undecided, Jewel-Undecided) This is the base model for the game, extra ideas and help would be appreciated. I will need a modeler, for the Chaos (not very difficult) and maybe a skinner, trigger help would be appriciated too. I can do terrain, basic triggers and all the units.

Only thing is - As chao are cute it'll all have to be made very cute ie. cute music, cute models ect :P Cus the whole warcraft scene doesnt really fit lol :P

as for the games i have some ideas...

Chao Treasure Hunter - Can you solve the clues and find the hidden treasure?

Chao Racer - Like you said, we could probobaly see what we can do basing it on that new racing game blizzard made.....

Chao Boxer - A freindly little play fight between Chao.

Chao Dance Mat - Oh we have all heard of dance mats (i hope :\ ) that'l lbe fun to make hehehe

Chao Mazer - Randomly generated mazes can you find the Chaos emerald at the middle of the maze and make your way out again?

Chao Cookie Cruncer - Pac Man with a chao what else coudl you want lmao

---Pets---
It'll be cool if the pets you can buy for your Chao can grow too and perhaps have some minigames of their own.

EDIT: I think mabey some of it should be single player like a tamagotchi with a save load code into multiplayer or something. Alot of people on B.net usually want to kill something and throw magical flame at a sheep or something :\

Ahhh, Chao treasure hunt, I like it Dance mat could be a puzzle like game where you need to hit a certain button for a dance step ^^ cute 'n crazy, what could be better! Boxing could be available before Fight, as Chao Fight is for Dark Chaos, prizes could include small animals or even chao eggs. As for triggers, how would you count the animals a chao receives? I was thinking a variable that increases each time, then when its equal to a certain amount, chao is removed from game and replaced. You can help with minigame triggers and most of the chao triggers, I;m not very good >.< Thanks for the response, I'm happy you know what a chao is!

EDOT: yah that variable sounds fine. Althoguh if its gonna be multiplayer ill have to have alooksee im only used to doing single player :)

Sounds funny, but not very interesting - perhaps because I am unfamiliar with a "Chao".

Like Zaz. said, Warcraft is very unfit for anything that is "cute" and I am not sure if this "Chao" will be accepted on battle.net. You know well enough with what kind of people you are dealing with.

Maybe it would be better to use instead of "Chao's" something else. Something that already exists. A spider, or dragon for all I would mind. I think that would attract somewhat more attention from all around, since I am sure that there are a number of people who are completely unfamiliar with "Chao's," like me. It did gave me a sudden idea of taking a cup of choco :P

I'l get some screens ready, but for now heres the basic life cycle:

Chao- Neutral- Child
Neutral Chao- Neutral- Adult
Dark Chao- Dark- Adult
Hero Chao- Hero- Adult
Jewel- Jewel- Adult

Basic Classes, not including perfect, a Chao begins as a neutral child, this is where you choose his class by feeding him special fruits. Once they mature, you can begin altering their stats with animals. Once they receive enough of an animal, they will change it a animal chao (Ex: Rabbit chao) Or you can train them in their normal class to upgrade them to perfect class (Ex: Dark to Devil)

Thats a basic outline, I'l put up a better one later.

Well i dunno bout you but i still really wanna do Chaos perosnally....of course the pets...hmmm perhaps they coudl be the warcraft creeps . Of course using a picture of a chao as the loading screen would be a nice informative, and perhaps a lil cinematic introduction when the gmae starts, with a 30 sec wait for laggers of course lol.

Point remains that not everyone knows it and that could prove fatal. Hey, look it on the bright side, by using creeps you can even let them grow :P (spiders, dragons, etc.)

Lol, Flad posted before I did, then you 2 posted before I got the chance to read it!
Anyways, for animals it will be creeps, like dragons, pheonixes, wolfs, spider, that kind of thing. I'm not fimiliar with the D&D thing, but what I posted is what actually happens in the game. Also, animals will give abilities like fire breathing, spider net, roar, stuff like that.

Well its not my place to say what the project does. Thanks for the advice regardless im gonna make it with Metal_Sonic64 for the experience and fun for me. I agree with what your saying...but chao are real cute.

EDIT: this is becoming a posting race lmao. Well i guess then with the pets as creeps it'll work out good. Perhaps we shoudl change the name to Chao's Creep Raising (that way people who dont know what a chao is will still want to play)

EDIT: Zaz., they call my undergarments "cute" as well, but other people may find it hideous. Especially those who don't know it.
I don't know if you exactly got my point by giving that as an example though...

Well i think it will be ok....especially as it seems your Chao will kinda be your chracter who raises your creep pets rather than say arthas or a random gnoll (perhaps novelty is a better word than cute then)

Also, they aren't pink I don't really get the D&D system, I'l use my way, it's nice and simple. Give me some feed back on the screens, I need to know what to improve.

I used the first word that came to mind, how could I help it it was 'undergarments' :P I'm a man of 100% improvisation.

Even so, it is just not getting my attention - not to mention others, even though you must be aware that I'm picky... very picky - at all, "Chao" isn't the most attractive name and to be honest, their... form, looks quite childish to me. I'm more worried of the lack of interest they may give in it before playing it before anything else though.

If it is using creeps as models, then there is no important reason to call it "Chao," not really forcing to remove it though. I'm fond on the idea, and something slightly similar crossed my mind once, but I never started on it.
Point remains, something like "Dragon raise" sounds more attractive then "Chao Raising" or anything similar to both. Especially to the immature amount of people on B.net, you should know that well enough.

Metal, "psycho Chao"? :\ I got a feeling that I'm getting a one-way-ticket to the hospital. It'll save me quite some problems if I would though. I'll have the time to work on my stories, and perhaps I can even help with the administrations, I'm quite late with finding a job after all, and they have been chasi... eh... too much details? :P

I like the screen shots, but the third and fourth looks a bit... a lack of variation. They look attractive though. For some reason, I'm fond on the nice colors of the trees.
