This is for my new rpg (campaign style) Melody of Spirit.

EDIT: Whats your opinion on random encounters in RPGs?

I am unsure how to do the battle system.

A - Just stick to the Warcraft system (new abilities of cource)

B - Use the warcraft sytem but somehow make it more unique? Random encounters, abushes ect. Have some abilities with unique casting scuh as keyboard imput for combos and such.

C - Attempt to make a turn-based system (although there are so many RPG's with turn-based it's not exactly gonna be unique...and could be outside of my skills)

D-1 - Arena-Based. When a fight happens teleport ot an arena (where the doodads are radomly generated ot give it a slightly different deel each time) And use the wacraft system

D-2 - Arena-Based. When a fight happens teleport ot an arena (where the doodas are radomly generated ot give it a slightly different deel each time) and use the warcraft system but changed a little like in B

E - Well i dont have an E but if anyone has any ideas PLEASE post them here.

Thank you everyone remember I either would like an opinion on an existing system here or a system or idea of your own. Thanks. (Rep wil be given to those who help alot..bad rep will be given to those who post a comment such as "This Sucks." even if you think it does go somewhere else or give a constructive critisism)

1 - there is already a turn based campaign. how ever innotive and great it is, what is the point exactly...

2 - Arena map for a campaign? or do u mean the rexxer campaign where theres one map and loads of sub maps

3 - I see many campaigns using normal abilitys and some tiny slight edited ones....i like custom abilitys....especially good looking ones!

Well no what i meant id it is an RPG but it spans over several maps like in the warcraft campaigns but you dont have armies...oh i cant explain well (its linear so its not free movement liek in the rexxar campaign)

As for the arenas i was thinking ever map has a part of the map as the arena and you get taken there when a fight begins. Not an arena as such...like in most rpgs (actual ones) when you get a random encounter you get taken to a different screen.

ps. whatever system i choose there will be custo mabilities...and they will ook good

Well, I like D-2 the best, it gets that rpg feeling if you´re moved to a cool looking place when a fight begins, an if you´re using ambushes, it would be cool if the chance of being ambushed is raised if you´re walking through a forest or cave and so on.. ´

anyways, I´ll post ideas when i come up with something good :god_help_us:

Well i perosnaly liked the arena style...however i realise some/most people hate random encounters....any ideas how else to have encounters? Or is random encounter ok?

I had an idea (although it only really applys to arena mode...but i guess coudl work in normal mode but woudl be harder)

As i said(at least i think i said) the doodads in the "arenas" will be randomly generated. Depending on the doodads your characters can interact with them but diiferently. For Example:

Amaya the Bard + Tree = Treesong (summons an Ent)

Sebastian the Dragon Knight + Tree = Push tree Over (crush an enemy)

Amaya the Bard + Rock = Podium (perform songs whilst ontop of the rock and invunerable, if rock is destroyed podium effect is taken away)

Don't have them often, just make them interesting, eg: you don't just go in and kill one then go back to moving.

Here's my oh-so-not-very-unique idea:

1) You 'hit' a random encounter.
2) You get teleported into the centre a fairly smallish map, but not tiny.
3) That map has terrain similar to what you were walking on, and doodads, etc.
4) Randomly create units appropriate to the area.
5) Allow them to leave if they reach the edge. Then, they can run away (if they don't get killed), or fight their way out.

If you use it, don't credit me, it comes out of an RPG I played on PS2, called 'summoner'.

Well captain griffin i am unsure as whether or not i shold have a diferent map for every fight mainly for the fact of waiting for maps to load can get rather boring.

But dont get me wrong i liek the idea.....hmm ill try it ^_^ cus the again the maps arn't huge so loading time wouldn't be tooo long.....

EDIT: I tried it and it is a little annyoing waiting for it to load. I think i'll stick to having an arena like that but on the map itself.
