the challenge is to create a terrain designed more for atmosphere than technical skill with doodads rules: you may use any tile set, and any map size (it is not a requirement to mix and match tile sets, but it is recommended) the subject of the terrain is entirely down to you you are only alowed to use 100 doodads, as a result, i suggest you only have one screenshot for this challenge, and design your terrsain to be viewed from only one specific angle buff and ability models WILL NOT count as doodads in this challenge. this is to encouarge everyone to try and come up with interesting uses for these models waterfalls WILL NOT count as doodads units WILL count as doodads. this is to stop anyone useing units with doodad models. also to ensure that any units that are used to create a more lively atmosphere count on the 100 doodad limit cutsom models are alowed, but only if they are available for public download. any custom doodads you use must be linked to in this thread, so everyone has them at their desposal (this dose mean, if you wish to create your own custom models, you can do so, but only if you upload them for download somewhere) Judging: the winner of this challenge wont be decided by a public poll. instead a team of judges will be chosen to decide the winner Judging Criteria: (the judges will be marking all of these areas out of 10, then an average will be taken of all the judges rateings) 10 points are availble for overall effect of the terrain (the quality of the final atmosphere) 10 points are available origonality. this means simpley createing a normal forest with a typical blizz atmosphere will loose you points. while createing an atmosphere as yet seen in terrain will get you more points. you will also loose points in this section, for something that is a typical blizz terrain. meaning something like a NE vilage. i strongly suggest that if you make a village or town of any kind, not to make it useing the standard doodads that blizz made to be used togeather, for example; haveing an NE village where all the buildings are the the NE buildings) 10 poins will be available for the judges opinion of your basic terrain. this means, your terrain will be viewed with all the game view settings on, but with all doodads invisable. this is to encourage participents in the basic terrain layout before youve even begun to place doodads 10 ponts will be awarded for couler ballence. this means how well the terrain tiles and the doodads you use either blend togeather well, or contrast for an interesting effect. this is to encourage everyone to tint their doodads to fit the terrain 5 bonus points are available for an epic terrain. with only 100 doodads, it will be a challenge to create an epicly sized terrain. but doing so will earn you more points 5 bonus points will be available for a compleatly new terraining style. this will only be awarded to one person (possably more, possably none) who come up with as compleatly original style that is noticable differant from the style WE was designed to create. for example, PheoVII's "red dawn" terrain that used exponential fog to create a siluet terrain. obviousely this wont count as it is now unorigonal, but anyhting that is compleatly new like that terrain (unlike the other graded areas, this will be awarded as a standard 5 points. no more, no less. and will be decided by a majoraty vote by the judges) 5 bonus points will be awarded by the judges for inovative and atmosphereic use of buff and ability models 1 point is available to every 10 doodads below 100 you use up to 5 bonus points are avalable for atmospheric inovation. this dose not mean that points are available for createion of structures (be they artificial or natural). but that extra points will be available for interesting combinations of doodads and tiles that are not typicaly used togeather, but blend well for a good atmospheric effect i will not be patricpateing in this challange unless there are too few people entering. however, i will be makeing a terrain anyway this challenge ends in 1 month on the 25th of february as this challange requiresa 100 doodad limit, maps must either be posted here for the judges inspection, of if you wish to keep your map private from other members, you can contact me on msn and send it to me there |

Wow, this sounds like a great challenge. I'l be participating for sure. When you talk about an epic sized terrain, do you want the map itself to be epic sized? |

the 10 points available for an epic terrain are only bonus points. i do not wish to encourage everyone to try and create a huge sceen that has an extensive background, as this would require a lot more than 100 doodads usualy. but for those that wish to attempt it, more points are available as an epic terrain is not something that is easiy ahiveable in this challange (and its only a bonus section), i have changed the points from 10 to 5 an epic terrain is only an option. noone will be marked down in any area for a small encloused terrain. but the bonmus points are avaiable to encourage anyone who has a great idea for an epic terrain that dose not consume a lot of doodads i cannot encourage everyone enough to go for a small terrain. it is only an area for those who are extreamly confident they can get those bonus points without looseing points in other areas due to the limiting number of doodads |

Well, Im gonna attempt this one too, though it will most likely end up being for fun. I don't have half the skill most of these terrainers have but it sounds like a really interesting challenge. Put my name down as well. |

My entry. 8 doodads, two units. |

Doodad Count - 8. Unit Count - 2. Good luck to all other challengers! (The doomguard attachment is the doomguard without particle emitters, as I had to delete them for this shot. I don't really care if someone takes it, since this is a very minor .mdl edit.) |

My entry won't count because I'm a judge but I thought I'd kick this off to see if me and anyone else currently working is on the right track... It's not innovative but I found a good use for the entangling root buff... It's still a WIP I'm thinking about expanding the background to something epic. |

all the judges will get together at the end of the contest to discuss the winners right? i find having multiple judges to be a bit of a hassle, but if you guys can do it, go for it. I'll be following this. |
