In the map I'm making at the moment, I'm including a random chance of getting a nasty injury when you are attacked. I have so far got: Broken Tibia (slows you down), Open Wound (makes you bleed, and lose 1hp per second), and Acid Burns (make you lose 1hp per 0.1 seconds). These all have visual effects on your unit, and a buff icon on the status bar. Fine so far, right? Well. I'm also planning on including an infestation buff, which doesn't do you any damage, but after 3-5 mins, it instantly kills you, and lots of little aliens spawn. Note that this buff CAN be healed with the same method as Acid Burns. The problem is that I'm having trouble deciding how to show the buff: 1: Show it like all the others, with a visual effect and an icon 2: Show it with a visual effect on the unit but no icon 3: Remove the icons from ALL the buffs, and give infestation a visual effect only Part of the problem is that I had a neat idea that I think might be unpopular: Open Wound uses a cinematic blood effect to make you appear to be spurting blood from your chest, and I like the idea of making parasite look similar, except with brighter blood coming from the mouth. What do you think? Please give me feedback! |

Showing it with a visual effect and icon might make it easier for newbies, but depending on how easy it is to get the cure, it would almost make it to easy for a pro get to the point where injuries are hardly a problem. "Oh hey, i've got a parasite... again. Smitty, hand me a medkit... ah, there we go. Gone again. pesky critters." The visual cue for the parasite sounds cool, just make sure it's a different color so it's easy to tell apart. Maybe make it purple or green. |

Yeah... ^^ Glad you like the idea, but that is basically the problem... Make it hard, so people will play it more than once, or make it n00b friendly so some people will play it at all... On an unrelated note, how do I give someone reputation? |

The little 'reputation' thing by their post. I say just add the visual effect. Keep 'em on their toes. Also, make it SAY what it is at the begining of the map or something... But, I've got some news for you: Don't bother trying to get everyone to understand. It doesn't matter WHAT you do, some people won't get it. I know, it stinks, but what can you do? Life's a bitch. |

you should use the purple blood thing from undead units and i think there is some green from some aswell, im not sure tho |

Thank you all. I've made my decision: I'm going to make them all traditional, with visual effects AND icons, but if my map becomes popular, I may later remove the icons. Thanks once more for your help. |
