Feedback for combat mech skins?

Here are two models done this week.

The first one is a heavier style combat mech. I am pleased with the overal design of the mech, and the skin looks great.

But the skin doesn't look that great ON the model. I think perhaps it looks to 'busy' and crowded. A little over complicated maybe? I'm not sure. But when you look at it, something isn't right.

The second is a lighter mech, more like a lotus. This one is more of a metal finish.

The problem I had with this one, is when I used realistic looking steels and panels, it did NOT look right in the game. It looked great in MAX and in Photoimpact, very realistc.

But WC3 just doesn't render them with justice, and realistic metals look very washed out. I had to make it more 'cartoon' like and burnt, as the traditional WC3 skins are.

SO! Having that, does anyone have any coments on the skins, and any tips on how I could make improvements to them? Not so much as 'adding parts' but more of 'improving textures'.

(Oh...these are "functional" models for in game use. The skin is only 256x256 for size and effeciency. They are also much smaller in the game, so small details like the joints are barely noticable.)

not bad, well, there is nothing special about thos skins, they're just basic (and good looking :8 ) but honestly, from distance they look kinda cartoony, but good job anyway.

My main issue with the skin is that it's too sharp. The edges are too perfect on the different colors. to the point where it almost looks like there are lines in between them. Let them run a little bit - especially the lighting/shading.

Also, I agree with the previous post. Add scratches, rust, dents - anything to break up the monotony of the repeated design. Try coloring different aspects of the body, differently. (i.e. the front of the leg different from the side and back of the leg). Break it up a little more.

I'd offer to have a go at it myself, but I still haven't found a way to fix my stupid Photoshop.
