No offence but that looks like a housing estate ...no shots of anything NEAR that even resembles a fort never mind a castle....sorry if i sound so negative

First of all: Never post so work in progress shots that you can't even recognize what it's trying to be. I'll now give you three good hints how to improve your terrain.

  • Lot more variation on the ground tiles.
  • Even a castle doesn't have perfectly lined houses (Place them more randomly)
  • More enviromental doodads (There is undergrowth in the castles too)

I have to say, Hezza has a point.

I have to agree with the above. I'm usually harsh so...

To tell you the truth I think your terrain sucks. But that dosen't mean it can't get better, if you want to know what I mean look around this forum. It's that standard B.NET terrain that everyone is so used to. Get away from the repeating and standard boring terrain that you see in all those maps.

In general, you can make your villages a little more chaotic, I know your going for a hunter's castle but here's a few reference shots...

While the roads and such might be straight the buildings are all built to a different degree, if it's an apartement complex place many houses (differnt kinds too, you can always use the ctrl + page up/down to raise and lower houses so you could create a story effect) usually even in cities a house has a small yard or something, rarely would you ever see a house built ON stone, it might be surrounded by it but usually the majority of buildings out there are built on dirt. Throw a bit of randomness into it and try to grab some ideas from the threads in this forum, the challenge forum and weekly terrain and put them to use.

don't be discouraged by the harsh comments your getting. to tell you the truth, this was what i pretty much terrained like back in the day. everyone's gotta start somewhere. just learn and copy ideas from other people and you'll get loads better.
