shading is basically many colors, also light and dark for eg if a light was face a 45° angle on the drawing you would shade according where the light would show up.

using the dodge and the burn tool is the cheaters way, though it gives a nice effect.

how ever you'll find that multiple of one color (e.g bright green, green, dark green etc) will give off a nice effect.

my suggestion too you is look at the drawing or picture of ur ref pic. and find where all the light and dark spots are and draw/color accordingly.

___________________________________________

if you want to know how to remove the colors (if u are using any type of photoshop) go to the "channel" tab (you'll find it in a box on ur screen) and click the "alpha" part and using the eraser remove all the high lighted red.
and click back on the rgb when u have finished.

Zoom (requires log in)

as you can see from above, the skin is "shaded" (this is a e.g skin its not going to be used and its not finished)

hope this helps.

if you require more help so what you need help on and ill go step by step for you.

if this is useful pos rep me

cheers,

Edit: ive resized the screenshot and made it a jpeg for ur conveience.

make sure you have selected the alpha channel first, if using the erasing tool doesnt work for you. use the white swatch (white color) and paint over it using the brush tool..

YAY IT WORKED! I had everything selected but the blue was highlighted over RGD or whatever causing it to erase all but the alpha so it was all a matter of not highlighting the alpha channel thanks so much
