Guest | Ok, here is the story: Dalaran (pre-War) has invited you to try out to become a master wizard under the expert training of the Archmagi. Obviously you have some skill in magic, or else you would never have recieved the invitation. Be warned that the acceptance process is very rigorous. The final test pits you against your other classmates. You must lead your team to victory by either defeating your opponents in battle or by discovering spells that are yet unknown in Azeroth. Introduction: This is my first map, and I am very interested in learning about triggers and terraining. I dont plan on using any custom skins/model because I'd like to keep it simple for the first draft. The features I plan on using are not unique, but I think that they are very cool systems that I would like to combine in one map. First off, I want the map to be PvP centered. The objective is to destroy the other opponents lives. It will include timed challenges that pit both teams against each other in a mass battle of skill. Also, I want each teammember to be able to wager on the outcome of the battles, and to be able to set some sort of odds. (gambling is something I am not too focused on, but would like to see in the first version in some form) Second, I want to add in a spell creation system. Think spellcraft, except that you have to farm the items from creeps from designated zones (ie. golems in the earth zone). Returning these items to the spell master will bring up a list of spells that you can learn from combining them. Also, I want to be able to enchant items and make potions for those that chose the alchemist/enchanter heroes. They will use the same items, but if this is too difficult I will put it in a later version. Third, I want to have the creep systems divided into different zones. I want them to be the main source of XP. I have the terrain set-up into different elements (fire, water, earth, etc.) They're three levels of terrain in each zone. The first level is accessible at the very beginning, and the next two should be locked out to all players until the first challenge or until they complete a quest. Fourth, I'd like to have a hero system that invovles a few different schools of magic. Such as invoker (calls upon arcane energy), elementalist, necromancer, priest, summoner, battle-mage etc, etc. Each hero starts out with one ability, but requires the creep dropped items to level up. Additional spells, available to their class, must be learned and leveled up by use of these creep dropped items as well. Finally, I want to add a few systems that will indirectly effect the outcome of the game. A power crystal on each side will need to be fed to power the fountain of health. Adding more crystals will give additional benefits to the team. I want a small quest system so that those characters that aren't pvp centered can still advance. Also, this will allow characters to gain access to certain zones before they are mass unlocked after pvp challenges. One last thing is a point tracker that could assign certain actions in the arena/during questing/general performance that could actually serve as a method of victory. So, if you are interested in helping out, I can really use someone who knows how to trigger and someone who can use the object editor to create the spell crafting system. I have developped the terrain myself, but if you are interested in helping in that, i'd love some feedback on what i've done. Most importantly, I'd like to try to do as much as I can, but this is my first map, so I'm a little unsure on where to begin. In truth, I'd just like to get a basic draft of the systems that I can flesh out later as I get more experience. Let me know if you are interested in helping me out in anyway, we can exchange emails, aim, bnet nicks etc. For the interested, here is the terrain that I've created so far. |

You might want to make some screen shots from the map instead of giving the entire map. People are often not willing to download the map, or have a limited bandw... ah, well, you got my point. It sounds quite good. Not everything has to be new, or special for it to become good. If this'll become successful, it could become a good example for many others projects. Good luck and make it Sparkle~ -Fladian |

Guest | Thanks, I'll post some screenshots when I get the chance to make it look nice. The basic map I posted just has the terrain dividen into zones and the arena. Glad you like the ideas, that is encouraging. However, I dont know what projects I should tackle first. Creeps? Heroes? Spell crafting systems? I'm think creeps because that seems like the easiest thing to do. EDIT: Added screenshots. Yay! BTW, dont think this is finished in any way. I just layed out the basic textures that I want. These may change, and of course I haven't added all the cool doodads that I want. I think that'll be one of the last things I do. |

Guest | Ok, just wanted to update everyone interested in my project. So far I have a few systems in place, and the map is looking decent. I still have a lot more stuff to add on, so here is my project's status. Story: Done Heroes: I have decided on 12, and what elements they use. Still need to tweak them out in object editor. I finally got a nice looking starting position at the corners of the arena. (SS Below) The vaults are gonna hold the players extra items and give a listing of spellbooks where the heroes can learn what items they need for spell recipes. Also, I got the arcane keep to act as the hero selection "tavern" The model goes really great with the whole theme of the map. Got the hero revival system working, and still need to tweak it though. Thanks to SD_Ryoko for that one. Terrain: I have all the zones textured, but I am waiting until the very end to add the creep spawns and the doodads. I think I want to wait as long as possible to do that. Just in case I have to make a drastic terrain change...which I dont think I will do. So, it looks plain now, you just have to use your imagination =D Arena System: That's what Im working on next week. Shouldn't be too hard to trigger, but its a lot of stuff that I have to figure out. So, give it some time. Creeps: These are gonna be a lot of fun and easy to do. I am getting better at using the object editor. I've figured out how to add custom items to their drops, and I'm working on getting some cool new icons to use for their buttons. Thanks to grater for giving me a great creep respawn code. And the only piece of the creep puzzle missing is the placement. Thats gonna be one of the last things I do though. Spell Creation System: Just looking at an item creation system by Sorrento now. A lot of this can be edited in object editor, with just the triggers for the actual recipes. So, once Im done editing the heroes, I'll start on the spell creation. At the moment, I have 2 friends working on the project. They are gonna help with the triggering sytems, object editor, et cetera. So, if you still like to sign on, I'd be glad to have you. My pm box is fine, and my aim is "serradow" Let me also update the screenshots, so that you can see the new start area, water zone, and arcane texture. |
