hi all. thats not title, i don't have on yet actually.well i am starting to make an aos. i have almost all the general ideas and stuff. it will be an aos that is more hero orianted, and not so much with weapon massing. also, like all aos, it will have armies charging into battle, except , not like most aos. this aos will be undead vs living( not title just concept). the thing is im not that good at terrrain. so heres what i want. i need a terrain with bases at top and bottom of map. the center will be one big lane where the 2 armys will meet. it will be humans vs undead, and undead base needs to look like a cemetary, while human, well use ur imagination,maybe like a huge castle. i need areas too, like a giant lake. and another cemetary(this will be an area where people can make sacrifices and such to gain special unique items) . i also need a forest, rich and full of different animals. and i also need a mountain type area that coils up ward, that has storms all around it. anyway i will post a drawing layout of the map later. if anyone is interested, u will be given credit of coarse. i want the map , 128x128, or maybe one higher, 160x160, im not sure, i will let u guys decide whats best if someone decides to do terrain. anyway title set i want is like felwood. and i want it to be night time all the time, and if possible , make this map look creepy, and haunting. has anyone ever seen sleepy hollow the movie, i would like to see the make in that setting, very scary looking. features: -custom abilities and heros,heros will have about 5 or 6 skills to choose from -3d view, so i need alot of eye candy for players like waterfalls, trees, sky. -mass battles, with up to 50 units fighint for each side. yes i know that sounds like alot, this map isn't meant for weak computers. but im tired of seeing aos where theres only 4 or 5 creeps , and then u have to wait for the next wave, it just gets kinda boring after a while, to me anyway. so i want to make mass armys , give the feel that ur in a real war. -20 heros for each side, just about, ive already got the lay out for them. -there will be areas with animals that u can hunt. when u kill the animals, u can use their skin bones, special potions, items, ect.what ever they drop, to make weapons, armor, or go to certain areas and make sacrifices and gain special unique items -items include ones that will grant abilities, walking underwater, flying, turning invisible, seeing invisible, -custom models and skins, icons, abilities -hero cap will be around 50 -aside from the main battle , there will be side quest , fun little things that will help u gain exp. and gold so u don't loose out will trying to attain nice unique items. -a second type of 3d camera , that wont rotate, but will just be in 3rd person, and follow u, so u can view that whole battle going on.\ -the story goes, that out of nowhere undead started appearing, and are taking over the land. u are the last hope to stop them, and save humanity. u can either aid the undead and destroy humans forever, or help the humans, and stop this apocalyptic disaster from occuraring(this is the jist of the story anyway) -more idead to come anyway more info will be posted if need be. and have a good day everyone =D ps. i really need help on this !!! stuff i need help with ---triggers ---terrain ---idead on heros and the map itself ---new map name lol |

Seems like nothing positive ever leaves his mouth anymore... must add him to my ignore list. Anyways, doesn't sound like that bad of a map as long as it's executed correctly. About the only thing i do for you is come up with ideas for heroes and stuff like that. Had a few for another AoS project i brainstormed for that died for no apparent reason. |

Call me negative, I dont really care. I clicked on this post because you seem to have a deal of arrogance in thinking you're making 'The Aos to end all Aos', and yet what I read sounds just like EVERY other poor attempt at making an AoS. You state 'like most other AoS' as if you've played them all. Evidently you haven't if you think your ideas are better or unique. Quote:
So you want specific information. Mass units is a stupid idea. 'This isn't meant for weak machines' is even more stupid. If you ever want people to play a map, you cant cut the potential audience in half before you even make the map. Having lots of units will seriously lag the game, people will hate it, leave, drop, whatever. Custom heroes, abilities.... many other AoS have that. It often alienates new players too. I'm not saying its a bad idea, but its not a key attraction unless the map as a whole works well. 3D view. Warcraft 3 is a 3D game with the ability to swing, and zoom the camera. What are you trying to brag about? Lots of eye candy. Well, the more doodads you throw in will add to the processor strain with all those masses of units. OMG LAG! 20 heroes for each side. Quality over quantity. You could have 50 for all you like, but if they're bland, inbalanced, poorly composed, etc, it wont be anything on 5 well made heroes. Maybe shed some light on them if they are already ready. Hunts, quests, side missions, etc. Always a nice feature, but not original, and pulls players away from the main objective. You said you want to make the battle better by having MASS armies, and yet yuo want to detract attention by making people hunt for fur and bones to make a pair of pants. Custom graphics. Probably of least importance until you get a beta out, AFTER everything els eis ready. Custom art fattens your map size a lot. You also need to work out what will and wont be custom. 40 heroes per side = up to 4MB of custom skins alone, 4MB being the map limit, and 90% cause for all people to leave a staging room. Level cap 50. So, you plan to have 10 levels of skills? For 40 heroes. That's not only 200 skills, but 2,000 levels of skills. Assmuning you have 5 skills per hero, and not 6! Point is, 3-4 levels per skill is fine. If you want people to gain experience for a long time, make the level requirements higher, or have different means of gaining bonuses. |

well whitehorn , i don't care if u think im arrogant. i want to clear things off by saying that this was not intended to sound like " oh this is gonna be the best map, better than any aos" . when did i say this was all original, in fact, all these ideas are from other maps and im glad to admit it. theres alot of great work on this site that im also using as well. the only reason i wrote the title, is one, because i don't have a title, two, because i didnt have a good title to post for this thread so i thought i would post something stupid to attract people and i guess it worked if u posted whitehorn lol. but ok, enough of that, i wont try to explain anymore to u because it will just go back and forth, and its a waste of time. i want this thread to be about the map, and ideas, not petty squables. anyway, whitehorn i feel like we got off on the wrong foot. but thanks for the constructive critizism. for the lag issues. i looked at a map called keys of sealing, which is very big, and has very nice terrain . it can be found on this site. and i made each side produce alot of units , about 40 each. and implemented some ground zero 3d cameras, and it worked fine on my comp. then i went on bnet, tryed it with some friends to see if it would lag for them , and they were fine. in fact my friend hosting had cable, the rest had dsl, and one had 56k. he had no problems either. he said he lagged as much as he does in dota. so i think the number of units for both sides, will be keept at around 40, maybe less if people don't want it like that. as for the size of the map, i summed up all the custom stuff on the heros, its not even 2 megs. and with all the triggers and stuff. this could be around 3 or 4 megs. give or take. and if there are issues with the map size then ill just make it smaller. still 20 heroes , i have found ppl like alot of options when ever i play bnet. and they will all vary and have their own unique abilities. as for hero levels. i think ill have 5 abilities. but will have about 4 or 5 levels per abilities. and for people who would reach level 50 lets say, at that point each levle would just give ability bonus. anyway i will post more updates later. and i think i got someone working on terrain |

---im currently working on some triggers that i need help in. i want to implement this idead of hero combos . where if two hereos are close to each other , they can perform a super strong attack. i would probably have a button that both players can put on auto when they are near eachother to activate the attack. now not all combinations will work. u have to find out the right ones. it will be like a little secret people have to figure out. but anyway, im having a hard time trying to make it work. if any expert trigger people can help i would appreciate that. ---another thing i am currently working on, is items that heros will drop. these will not be the items u collect. but items unique to certain heros. for example, the vampire on the undead side, if he happens to get killed, will drop a vampire tooth. this item can only be found if the vampire dies, which means someone on the undead side will have to pick him. this item can then be used with something else to make a unique item that can only be made with the vamp tooth. what do u guys think about this system of items. of coarse there will be other items , but all heros will drop one item that is unique to them when they die. and the item will dissaper fast , not super fast, but it will stay on the battle field as long as it takes for the hero to revive. after that, then it disapers and u would have to kill the hero again to get the item. ---im also working on some item recipes. i am puting a forge system , where heroes can take items they have found , hunted, ect, along with weapons they have to forge new weapons. the latest one i made was this recipe. a rune stone , and a blade to make a demon edge. ideas for items and recipes are welcome. ---another idea i need feedback on, (and yes feedback doesn't mean "this is stupid" give me reasons plz) teleporting. should i use staff of teleporting in map. now games like enmity have a nice balance because the tele takes time. but u can upgrade and it can reduce the tele time. do u guys think i should use this. i think its a very nice system to have. ---i also need help with the story of the map, yes i know the one i have sucks. thats why i need some ideas. ---also, should i include a little cinematic, i was thinking about that but im not sure if i people would want that. just like part of the story, why the undead are attacking or what ever. anyway , feedback would be most appreciated. |

Can you describe some of the Heros? Or are you still planning them? I guess I could do a bit of terrain for you, I don't have much to do. What tileset is it going to be? I'm thinking an epic battle on the plains of war... A river running across the map, some small towns, wooded areas... Hmmm, Village tileset would probably work best. On another note, try to keep custom models 'n stuff down, you'd be best to really on skins, as people won't want to play a giant sized map. |

You sound quite new to this work, especially by seeing the words you use. I don't think you'll find everything you need thanks to that, partly because of your grammar as well. I'm sure my FAQ mentioned that as well. By saying "how does that sound guys ?" quite often, you are not giving us a great impression either. Try to skip those words, they sound quite desperate to me, and I've been here at this point for quite some time. Also, the name of the thread. You may have written it because "it is stupid and will attract attention" I got a feeling that it is a poor excuse you had to think of because you would make a fool of yourself. I can live with that, but I can also live with it, if you ask it to change. Just friendly advice ^^ I won't comment on the map. I'll be more "negative" than Whitehorn will be. You see, I don't like AoS'. Regardless, I'll stay quiet because of that. A few more things. One, don't double (or more) post. Something like that is forbidden here, and it is quite annoying may I add to it. Some people - such as me - may take actions because of that. The other thing is, try to use paragraphs in your amount of text. I... and a lot of people hate reading one big block of text, even though it may be connected with each other, try to seperate it a bit. It'll make it easier to read. -Fladian |
