I say Oinkerwinkle. His tools are the best. |

Same here. Without Oinkerwinkle where would be the mdl editing tools. |

You guys have no idea, without yobguls you couldnt even CONVERT mdx to readable mdl format. Be glad that Yobguls (during wc3 beta) churned this thingy out while us old gramps churned the meanings and functions of the mdl out =P Of course oinkers stuff contributed to wc3 modding into a easier attempt, but the baseline is: without Yobguls foundation of the wc3 file converter, you couldnt do anything related to mdl, be that dex wise, oinkers tool wise, etc.... IMO a poll is useless in this case scenario, because you left a vast mayority of people who indeed contributed alot to wc3 modding (and generally directed to modelling /editing aspect). Daishiofdeath, Kmk, Republicola, Fadi... are just a few names that I miss among the list (Republicola vastly improved the Dex script so that it was actually compatible with gmax etc). Heck, even Drax and I fiddled some time about with the mdl functions and cartographed interesting functions. The Goblin Blaster was a result of Reps improved Dex and a shitload of mdl editing. Blackdick also helped: without him I couldnt convert all wc3 beta models into recent format. Its a combined effort of various people that made the current state of modding as it is today, and even now new people are contributing to it (blinkboy as a recent example). In my opinion it should be Yobguls as the winner: without that guy we couldnt do a simple mdl edit; model creation with the mdl+geometry creation (Dex) wasnt possible; Oinkers tools might not had been there as the mdl functions couldnt be decyphered as thoroughly as it is now. You guys ignored the guy who put the ground foundation of the entire mdl editing.... Just a sidenote: making great models has no influence of revolutionising modding (moddeling wise). Technically Alfred and Mc! names cannot be included in the list (I did contribute regarding mdl editing etc) but again, the entire poll is incomplete |

Yobguls, Republicola (with a bit testing help from me :P ), Drax, CitizenSnips and Blackdick. |

Oinker has done more than any other... |

You have some good points there Cookie, but Oinkerwinkles tools make the .mdl editing so easy that even a 12 years old kid could understand it. I don't recognize almost any of those names you mentioned, but I haven't been here nearly as long as you. So I still say Oinkerwinkle. |

yes its a toughy, but... the question states who did the most. zes, oinkerwinker might have done a lot more, but credit to yobguls goes for everything mdl related... id say yobguls even if oinkerwinker did a lot... yobguls is also the pioneer too by da way, who is yogbuls?...lol... do a spell check |

True, Yobguls is the base of a lot of it, but its buggy, and I bet Oinker could make a better version if he really wanted to. Personally I'd have added theprophet for the warcraft viewer, as most people who get into the graphics side of modding have undoubtedly used this. Back to oinkerwinkle, he has made a 79kb file that allows people to model... for free. Who else has done anything near that? Just look at Nasrudin's work if you think this tool is iffy. He's done incredible things with it. I dont want to underrate his other tools, especially animation transfer, which is the most used tool in my personal library. http://www.oinkerwinkle.com/tools/download.html Now, looking at Republicola, Cookie, Snips, Drax, did some very important and great work on the importer scripts, the foundations of this site which has spawned many, many modders, both great and not so great. On that note, why isn't StonedStoopid on the list? As for Alfred? I wouldn't exactly call his work revolutionary. He's good at what he does, and he has good knowledge of MDL, but then so are 50 other people. I've only really touched the graphics side, as that's my party, but many others deserve amention, such as: AIAndy, BlackDick, Darky28, Lord Vexorian (thumbs up), BahamutZERO (Saviour of Mac users?), PitzerMike, heck what about ShadowFlare? WHo doesn't use winMPQ? And MC! Bah. What did he do? |

Mhh... finally, I think the_prophet has done the most... everyone use wc3viewer... |
| 03-01-2005, 06:13 PM | #12 |
We had wc3 image viewer before theprophets tool, it just supports palletted as well (which is nice) and has more features, but yeah, he should be on the list too though (but so would DJBNJack, he supplied a tool to create skins for the first 1 and a half year ..) |
