Lord of the Clans

This campaign features the story of Thrall, how he started as a slave and became warchief of the horde.

Well, let's start with the bad: I didn't like to make this cinematics-only so i decided to change a few thing in the course of storytelling. Therefore you will miss characters like Sergeant, almost noone will be talking about the color of the orcs' eyes and you won't experience Blackmoore being drunk. You will have to compete several quests that have nothing to do with the story itself (e.g. rescuing human kids etc.) There will be no voice-acting, limited amount of custom models (you can already download most of them at wc3search.) Well, i never planned this to be a big project anyway, I'm just doing it because I like the book.

And now to the good part: The campaign will feature 8 playable maps and 3 cinematic-maps. I plan to have at least 5 hours of playtime for the whole campaign :D Every map has a custom loading-screen (wow!^^)

[Screenshots]

errr, did i forget to mention that the project, after 2,5 years in the making, is almost finished?^^ The 11 maps are done, the triggering is completed. But 3 things have to be done yet before it can be released:
a)about 100 bugs have to be removed.
b)a friend agreed to help with german spelling and grammar (actually that is thereason why you might have never heard about it, the infos were exclusive to the german community because i wasn't sure if I was goung to translate the whole project)
c)translate from german to english (I have the book in english therefore i think i will need no help with spelling and grammar).

afterwards i think i will spend 2 or 3 times walking through the whole campaign to make sure every´s bugfree.

As you might see of this I don't need any help, i just posted for advertisement (I hope this is against the Rules). But feedback i still appreciated ...There were many LotC-Projects, and i liked them all but they all had one common Problem: they never got finished. Mine is almost (and I'm so proud of it :D)

This brings back memories...

Sorry, I haven't read the thread, I'm not in my best condition to get any useful meaning out of it right now anyway (I'm sick) so, I'll keep this short and brief.
Not TOO long ago, there was a project like this as well, a very succesful to be exact. Unfortunately, and for a reason I am not exactly familiar of, the project died. I suggest you make a search in this section for that thread, and try to revive that instead of creating an entire new project about the same subject.

...urg...

I think i know what project you mean, but i think that i deserve my own thread too just read.

yeah well, too bad you didn't read the part where i wrote that i was ALMOST FINISHED WITH THIS PROJECT!!^^

I have absolutely no need in continueing left-overs of other Projects. My campaign has already been in the making since RoC's Release. Except the bug-fixing and english-german-translation everything is finished. Terrrain, Triggers, the few Custom Models etc. ETA is April 1, but could change since i can only work on weekends on this project. (would be "cool" if poeple actually believed this was an April's Fools Joke).

As i wrote in the first thread i didn't post here about this project until i was sure i wanted to translate it to the english language.

Anyway, i am surprised that there are so few viewers and answers to this thread (reminds me of the second W3-Forum where i made my Project public, the first was the original one and that went quite well). I am not a man of big words, and I don't think I am the best WC3-Mapper out there but is there really more interest in recently started projects than in almost finished? (though i could be wrong, it's 9PM in Germany right now, maybe it just isn't the time to post for the rest of the world :P).

I noticed that it was nearly finished, after I read it, of course.

Anyway, I'm quite tired now, so I am clearly forgetting things, but you might want to give some more information about the people you might need. It IS a gathering forum after all :)

As for a little off-topic (I'm not staying off-topic). I probably won't be posting for a short a while on the forum. I'm sick, and I only happen to feel somewhat better now and I don't think I will feel the way I feel right now tomorrow morning. So, this'll probably be my last post until I'm back :)

Outsider, give it some time. People will eventually notice it.

Deleted previous post...

I have a real request now. If anyone could skin Grunts with read eyes.. They have to be visible from distance too, so the player doesn't need to get very close to see them.

Maybe, create a model, a glow-attachment, that can be sticked to their eyes.

It's been a few weeks since my last post... Forget the request about red-eyed orcs, I have a friend helping me out.

List of thing to do:
Correction of grammar and spelling of the german version is going well (55% done). I would give it another two weeks until it's finished.

Translation is also going well (40% done). I would give it another 3-4 weeks until it's finished.

After these things are done I am, as i previously wrote, going to replay the whole campaign a few times until I am sure the most dangerous bugs are ironed out. But I'm afraid that it will not be completely bug-free and I won't makeany updates if nobody discovers any serious bugs (like getting stuck or being unable to load a level). This should not take more than a weekend. German Version should be released through April. English Version from end of April till March.

Please ask me any question you like, I will visit this thread two times a day at least, as long as I see replies coming.

Any kind of progressing information would be appreciated. If you want, I can add you to the list of Projects in Development, but I will be in need of any kind of information you can give me.

Also, for those who are not very familiar with that book - I never read it, I only helped (sort of) with a campaign about it that was canceled because of world problems - try to give them more information about it. Not exactly the information of the book, but more about the project, what you EXACTLY want to do in it.

Regardless, good luck. Any kind of ideas or anything similar could perhaps be found in the previous project of Lord of the Clans.

OK. not much I can add what I havent already written.

The campaign will feature 8 playable maps and 3 cinematic-maps. I plan to have at least 5 hours of playtime for the whole campaign

Story:
It's about Thrall's life before the events of Warcraft III. You will find out how he was raised by humans and became warchief of the horde and met legendary Heroes like Grom Hellscream, Drek'Thar and Orgrim Doomhammer.

I tried to create this project keeping in mind that I would have to remove many things readers might have liked about the book and add many of my own ideas so the campaign would be playable instead of a cinematic-series. For example: there are no gladiator fights and there will be almost no discussion about the orc's eye color. You will also miss characters like Sergeant :( I made this decision so I would not have to revamp half of the campaign (I started creating it without even having read the book ...). I plan to finish it soon.
But there are still MANY cinematics to look at :D

The focus will lay on gameplay. The first third of the campaign will be a mix of combat and stealth. The second third will be about minigames (dodging and collecting stuff) and the last third will have all kinds of gameplay... You will get to build a base, and redo all the cool things you might have about the campaign up to that point.

There will be a few custom models (mainly for Thrall) and skins and four imported music tracks. Every map will have a custom loading screen.

No new custom spells. Thrall won't get past Level 8.

*What do I mean by stealth? In the beginning of hte campaign Thrall is too weak to fight against many enemies. He could defeat a footman maybe two, but then you would have to wait very long for him to regain health. Instead, you use your cloak of shadows and wait until the guards move away before you make your next step.

*What do I mean by fight? I tried to avoid simple fight-your-way-through-a-bunch-of-creeps-situations. I tried to add a little strategy in the fights by putting Healing Pools nearby and giving Thrall a skills like the Tauren War Stomp. I hope I did a good job :P

I hope you're satisified now :)

Update as of April, 2.: Map 6 was translated to english language, Map 7 german spelling was corrected.

Update as of April, 9.: Map 7 and 8 were translated into english. German spelling of Map 8 and 9 has been corrected. See above for further details.

I have a theory that the campaign-editor does not take maps that are over 4mb big. Unfortunately my Credits-Map is already 3,95mb and that's where I have every Thrall model in.

I use the peon for thrall as a kid.

But it doesn't matter now anyway, it would delay the campaign even more because you might have to change more than just the peon-model and skin.

Here's a gallery of Thrall's different skins:

The wolf has yellow eyes because of cnp from Drek'Thar's wolf. Wont' be changed. Don't care.

When I started with this project I wanted to stay as minimalistic as possible with imported stuff. Now I have more than I ever wanted :D

Albiino-I
You could import all the stuff from the maps to make a one big campaign file..?
04-03-2005, 09:14 AM#13
OutsiderXE
You mean the Campaign Editor's Import Screen? I only have my MapPreview.tga there and I'm too lazy too bring all the stuff there too only to add a few more models. I'm fine with how it is now. The only thing I am going to do is make translations and make sure the most important bugs are killed. I don't want to continue working on this campaign much longer. I'm proud of what I have done (no matter the comments on it afterwards) but the thought of doing more of it for another 2-3 months is making me sick. I wan't to enjoy my other games without having the thought in the back of my head that I still have "work" to do :(

add: so, the map with the most to read is completed. It took me five hours to translate Map 7 (Chapter Five)... I hope Map 8,9,10 and 11 will be finished by the end of the next weekend. After that there is only minor bugfixing left.

I could cut down the bytes for you, the problem is usually wasted space, I bet I could cut it down a megabyte.
