Guest | Hey Guys ~ First of all, I have to say that I really appreciate all of the people's work on AMAI, and I think it's a great program. But I'm simply asking you, isn't the AMAI(Insane) in 1v1 ridiculously hard? I mean I've been playing AMAI for quite a while(1v1 Insane only, that is), and I certainly won quite a few. But most of the time I just get completely smashed, for the simple reason that the AMAI(Insane) just overruns you with a hell of a lot units. It's not a matter of Micro, and I know that it's impossible to give the Computer a sort of 'Human' Micro. But wouldn't it be great if it'd just be using lesser units more efficiently, rather than pumping out Units out of four Producing Buildings. I just want to hear your views on that, and maybe some hints etc. Thx. |

@tehjoeh: AMAI Insane is now just a thesis that shows how efficient AMAI uses resources to produce units (and round up all the creeps, too) in less time. The most difficult thing to beat vs AMAI Insane, is that it can afford to buy TP scrolls for each hero all time, given its 2x gold. If you want something like AMAI Insane, still have fun and get a more fair chance to win, you can try playing VS Two (2) allied Normal AMAI's. :) |

Guest | Ya. Insane amai had no absolute much micro since it depend very MUCH on resources (x2) That's sad.. But it alright.. |

Well, that might be an Idea. But I don't like the idea of having 2 opponents, since I tend to monitor my opponent's progress and adapt to it if you know what I mean ;) But yeah, the TP thing is a pain in the ass, because you're practically unable to kill his Hero. I mean I like the AMAI at the beginning, when he comes with like his DK and some ghuls for instance, me being Human. So I surround his DK with 4 Foots or so, and he TP's out; Fair enough. But 2 minutes later he rocks up with another TP in the inventory ... =) |

@tehjoeh: Hmmm... Quitch might convince you that 1 VS 2 shouldn't be much of a problem playing, right Quitch? ^_^ |

No need to get convinced imo. Did I say it is a problem? |

@tehjoeh: hehehe, no, not that. A bit of backgrounder: Quitch has done extensive testing on how AMAI performs in team play, and has posted analysis on how it could be improved. Bottom line is, playing 1 vs 2 AMAI Normal AI's is easier than playing 1 vs 2 Blizz Normal AI's. Reason is, 2 Blizz Opponents' behaviors are the same, so when one attacks, the other is, too. Compare that to AMAI, where 1 team attacks, but the other one may still spend time creeping. |

Guest | So thats no real alternative to playing 1v1 insane or? =( |

@tehjoeh: The only way I beat AMAI Insane: 1. Use a small map, like Two Rivers 2. Get a harassing hero 3. Go to opponent's base, kill peons 4. Heal, repeat 3 as much as possible. 5. Meanwhile, create units. 6. Use units to join the harassment. 7. Win! :) But it's still difficult, especially if the hero spends time to heal always. |

Well thats the usual procedure I go through anyways. I try to play as I do on Bnet. But the amount of units the INSANE's got is simply ridiculous. |

May I suggest you try the handicap function in war3 and turn down AMAIs units to 50% health. thoes games can be pretty interesting. Also I can give a few tips from what I have seen when WargH(Only player I know who can beat insane AMAI 1on1 fair normal play) beats AMAI is to expand fast and prevent AMAI from expanding at all, that way you will have same income as the computer and play more even. |

Guest | It is possible to beat an insane computer AMAI. I have sat through watching my friend do so playing as Night Elves (the AMAI was Undead). He says that it's easier doing it on bigger maps (contrary to what others have suggested above) - that's possibly cause Night Elves like big maps. Gnoll Wood was the one I saw him play on. In that case, he just expanded a lot, and kept sniping at the AMAI stuff. Rinse and repeat until everyone runs out of gold. He's done it before as Orc against an Insane AMAI Night Elf on Plunder Isle. Again it was a case of trying to get the computer to run out of gold. He holed up, and built a lot of towers. Using a blademaster (with orb), and only a few other units, he held on until the comp ran out of gold. Because he didn't need many units, and only towers, he ran out of gold just after the comp did. |

Guest | Thanks for all suggestions, but I knew all that, really. Its not like i have never beaten the INSANE, I actually won quite a few games such as a HU vs UD on LT or such. And I'm not really into that Blademaster-Tower laming =( Concerning the handicap function, I think it doesnt really represent a realistic 1v1 game. |

Your opponent having twice your resources isn't realistic either, hence the number of troops. Now, if AMAI could implement custom AI levels, that would be interesting. |
