Project Eragon

I am at the moment in the conceptual stage of my soon to come campaign Eragon. It is based on the book Eragon by Christopher Paolini . There is most likely going to be a one player campaign and then you can also play a few multiplayer maps using a hero save system. You live in a small city for a short period of time. Then you venture into the Spine and find a dragon egg. The color of the dragon will be based on your actions and morality pre-established while living in your town. You can then venture to any part of Alegasia and go on quests for characters in the book. This game will be based off of Fable by Lionhead Studios gameplay and Eragon storyline. The spells will work like this. You can learn spell words by reading books and other parchements or being taught them. You then can at any time type those spells and instead of draining mana it will drain life. There will be no spells that use the original Blizzard spell system where you learn spells when you level up. This is pretty much all I know so far. Please post comments, crit, or ideas. Thanks for reading!

At the moment I need only 1-4 skilled concept artists. There is no requirement for commitement so you may come and go as you like. You need not set aside much time for this project as I am in no hurry to complete it. If you would like to help please either PM, Email ([email protected]), or post here a portfolio of some kind or some past art. Thanks

Right.
Not everyone has read that book so I suggest that you actually describe in more details what happens in your campaign. Not the book, but in your campaign.
Also, you're asking for a small team. That's all good, but what can YOU do? No one will join your team if you(the project founder) just sits around and does nothing.
Next, you're saying that your team members can just come and go as they like. Bad idea. When you have team members you HAVE to set time limits for the work, otherwise, you'll never get anything done.
And I don't understand how you're going to do a mod with only concept artists...

IF he is able to do all other work, then it is fine as it is. But like I said before, read the FAQ already. That's the only thing I ask in return of the Projects in Development thread.

I myself will be doing most of the skinning, most of the terraining, and all of the triggering. I only asked for concept artists because at the moment I am only in the conceptual stage and many of my team members would most likely just be sitting around waiting for me to give them stuff to do if I had them. I will later ask for a larger team but at the moment I am only in need of a few concept artists. Sorry for not reading the FAQ I will now.

OK, in the campaign you start out as Eragon a young boy in his home town of Carvahall. You take a few petty quests to decide your morality. You are then sent off into the Spine to hunt for food by your family. In the Spine you find a dragon egg. The color of your dragon and your morality for the rest of the game will decide on what you did in Carvahall. You may then train your dragon by leveling him up. You can go to any of the cities in the book and take quests depending on your morality. Therefore when you are evil, evil people will give you quests and vice versa for good people.

EDIT
I assume my situation with my team is quite like you suggested Fladian in the FAQ. I do not want to get people to do something when I may not even get that far in my campaign.

Good Book. I've read it, yup. I may be able to provide some ideas if you want any, I joined an Eragon map a long time ago but it never went anywhere. For magic system, I was thinking that you should still have mana, but when you use a spell, it will begin to drain down, not just go away. So however long you wish to maintain the spell depends on your mana, so if you only have a small amount of mana left, you won't be able to sustain a spell for long (depending on the spell) Once you run out of mana, your life will begin to drain at a fast rate. Your dragon should also have the ability to aid you while channeling with a "siphon mana" type spell that gives mana instead of taking it.
I also had the idea for learning spells, you would learn elemental spells depending on your affinity, traits, etc. You would only be able to use a few spells at a time (equiped spells) But once you complete your training with the elves (later) you gain more magical abilities as well as increases mana regen. and channeling would rewuire less mana to use.

Those are my ideas for now, I'm trying to remember the rest of the book :P

I'll be frank. I admire your attitude.
Most people who post here try and give all the work to their team members while you're doing the exact opposite. *Rep point*
However, although this is a good thing. Try not to pile too much work on yourself or otherwise you'll finish by the time Warcraft IV is out. So my advice is: do most of the work, but not all. get some team members (not now, but later on) who can terrain/skin/whatever you need... and give them some work so that you don't have too much to do.

Or you could try what I always say, "I rather work with a small team of people I trust, than creating a big team of people I don't know".
Like Satanas said, you shouldn't take all work on your own. Eventually you might need a little help here and there, and that's the complete reason of the Team Gathering forum.

I'll stick around this project :P (that's an ensurance that the thread will stay alive :P)

Dang, I was going to do something like this. Guess you beat me to it. I was going to use the World of Warcraft Combat Engine I made for Warcraft III for the combat: http://www.wc3sear.ch/?p=Maps&ID=3636. You can use it if you want. It's a little confusing though.
