In a multiplayer hosted game, there is a list-box that allows you to select which race you want to place as. Human, Orcs, Undead, etc. Is there a way to make my map display altered race names? I want to edit the orc race to represent a 'fire race' for example. And I want this race to appear in this list-box as 'Fire' Any ideas? |

Unless you can complete edit the game, I don't think there is a way. Instead make sure to note to people clearly that if you play the Orcs, you are playing the "Fire Race". |

How would you suggest I note to them this? |

Make extra forces, and rename them... "Orc = Fire Race" And so on.. Don't put any players in these forces, and now the players can see the changes. |

There is a particular file u change though to modify those which is found in the warcraft mpq files. I'll be able to tell u later today if u wish but would require use of a game executable using sfmpq to make it work and is probrably more effort than needed just to play a single map, and so i reccomend u use Azhaqs workaround method. |

You can modify the texts that are displayed in the starting game window, but they take effect with a 1 game delay, meaning: the first time a player plays the map, the changed texts won't be there, they will be there the next game, even if the player plays something else afterwards. |

That's with modifying game interface, isn't it? I've seen similar things done with difficulty names. |

there's an easier way, simply go advanced -> game interface scroll down and find something that says Text - general 'orc' and change it, i did that once and it worked. you cant add new races tho. |

I tried that and when I went to select the race it still said Orc, even though when I went into Game Interface and found Orc, renamed it to Fire Race. How many times did you try it? |

The reason I want to do this is because it would save me from having to make a building to allow players to select their race. This gets messy too. If I could simply make 'Fire Race' available to see by users before the game starts, then they KNOW what they are picking. and I can simply customize the official units to look like fire units. Thanks for all the feedback guys. PS: If this requires MPQ editing, doesn't this mean other players need the same modified MPQ to see the changes? |
