well this could go in off topic, but i think it has more to do with the site, i was wondering how the amont of rep points you give out, is calculated, i know it does not depend entirely, on your rep points since i have seen ppl with less rep than me, give out more rep points... |

I personally do not know. The rep system is a bad one in my opinion~ |

I got 5 bars, I give 12 points of rep. Try to figure that, I don't feel like it :P |

He does? Then it is probably counted through posts and other people's rep. as well... not that it really matters anyway... |

Well, your rep is a small factor at least. if you're below 10, it does nothing when you rep someone else, no matter how many posts you may have. But i agree with draco. the rep system is a bad one. I got -15 rep for "probably an unoriginal map" when requesting a model. It's annoying when someone can go around giving out red rep on such a stupid basis without tagging their name to it. |

So Im assuming the grey rep points mean nothing? |
| 03-25-2005, 06:51 PM | #9 |
That's correct. Of course, there's no way of telling whether it was supposed to be red or green. But it doesn't matter much. I remember another vbulletin based forum that gave users the option to disable their reputation. So people couldn't give them rep, of any sort. Maybe it would be a good idea to add that here? If you like rep, leave it normal, if you don't, shut it off. |

Personally I think of rep as experience. If you see a person with more rep, they could possible give you the answer your looking for, because you know they have experince. Just my opinion. Im not to over worked on getting rep or anything, but I will give rep to someone who gives me the answer im looking for, but since I have under 10 rep, it wont make a difference. |

Elven - if someone gave you -15 rep, then they are probably an admin |

Don't get me wrong, I would never assume something like that. I would take advice from all people who take time out of their way to help me. Lots of my rep points are grey ![]() |

Not necessarily more experience. I got a lot of rep and am a veteran-member, but I don't got a clue how to help people with triggers, skins or models. Judging someone on rep. isn't really something you can do, especially since project members and leaders are often bathing in it as well. |

This is all from my own experiance 10 rep = 1 rep power 100 rep = 2 rep power 150 rep = 3 rep power 200 rep = 4 rep power 250 rep = 5 rep power 300 rep = 6 rep power //I think Thats what I remember anyways. This is from the vBulitin manual - not a great guide but just what the site admin can do. * Default Reputation This is the reputation score that new users will start out with. * Number of Reputation Levels to Display When a user enters their User CP, they will see a list of their most recent reputation ratings. This affects how many of the latest ratings to display. * Administrator's Reputation Power If you wish to have administrator's wield a certain reputation power independent of their calculated score, enter it here. Otherwise, set this to 0 and they will use the same calculations as everyone else. * Register Date Factor The number of reputation points that a user is able to give or take is dependant on several factors, with the length they have been registered as one of them. A user's power is first initialized at 1 and then this factor and the factors that follow are used to increase it. For example if you set this to 365, every 365 days that the user has been a member of your forum, they would gain one point. So if they have been a member for five years, they would gain 5 points of power for a total of 6. * Post Count Factor The amount of posts that a user has can also affect their reputation power. Set this to number of posts that you want to award one point for. For example, set this to 50 and for a user with 500 posts, they would gain 10 points of power. * Reputation Point Factor The users current reputation score can also affect their reputation power. Set this to 100 and a user with a reputation of 1000 would gain 10 points of reputation power. If you set any of the power factors to 0, that will effectively remove that factor from having an effect on the user's reputation power. * Minimum Post Count If the reputation system is enabled, anyone will be able to rate a post but only users with a post count above the level you set here will be able to actually give points or take points from another user. * Minimum Reputation Count As with the post count above, a user must have a reputation above this level to be able to give or take points from another user's score. * Daily Reputation Clicks Limit This sets how many unique members that a forum user will be able to rate in any 24 hour period. Administrators can rate as many people as they wish. * Reputation User Spread This setting dictates how many unique members that a user must rate before they are able to rate the same member twice. The goal of this setting is to stop a member from either artificially bumping or dropping a user by repeatedly rating their posts. |

well, since you are talking about rep, someone gave me a negative rep saying "hi, you suck" so my rep has been brought down. there was absolutly no reason for them to do this and I am really mad. if this was the wrong place to say this then I am sorry but I didn't know where I should. I would like someone to remove the negative rep if they could please. |
