I'm making a lot of custom heroes for one of my maps, but I have come across a problem.. I have two heroes that use the same model but I want them to both have different skins, how do I do this? I didn't think you could do this but then I played Tides of Blood. Also 1st 15 ppl to post here gets +rep |

Well, you would have to export the model file (.mdx) with a file exporting program like wc3wiever, and then convert it to .mdl. Then you can open it in notepad and search for where it says which textures the model uses, and change the name of the texture to something new. Now you change the file back to .mdx, give it a new name and import it in your map. You also import the new skin under the name you changed when editing the .mdl. Now you have a "new" model and a new skin and the "new" model is just a modified old model so it uses the new skin. However, that takes up space, both the model and the texture go above 150kb (I suppose you can use low res textures, and the size of the model depends on how complex it is, but it's still too much), so you need 350kb for a single custom unit. p.s.: no need to use caps, we can read just fine. Also, you really can't give any rep, so advertising like that is kind of futile. |

it's because your own is so low. It needs to be above 10 for it to actually do something. As for the solution, anitarf has what seems to be the best idea. Though its actually easy in if you happen to be trying to skin the sorceress, it's easier, since it has two models in game. Import one skin for one, and #2 skin for the other. That's one of the only ones, though. Haven't played ToB, so i don't know which unit you're talking about exactly. |
