So i am working on a pproject (unsung Legends) and we need your feedback, what is more important filesize or cool models, effects and systems? it is a one player map so no b.net, but would you prefer to have like a 25 mb map with all sorts of ways to customize your hero, different skin options for each hero,or a 8 mb map with such no options. |

In my opinion, I would offer 2 versions to the game, 1. with all the custom stuff, but big file size. 2. no custom stuff, but small file size. It allows people to have a choice. some people may not want the big file size, but if you only offter it in the big file size format. then they may not download it and play. or they maynot have the room for that map. or possibly they won't have the ram to support all that custom stuff. I say make 2 versions so you make everyone happy. |

I voted for #2 because I like the look of the game to overpower the load. So I would wait if the game is good. |

I suppose a single player map caters more to the people who don't have broadband, so it's hard to say. I would be otherwise all for the big version. It's a tough choice, and you have to make it. :P |

Low filesize is imperitive for battle.net but its not nearly as consequential with singleplayer. I think that you may as well include everything that you can include, just to impress the player. |

25MB isn't too big for a singleplayer map; I'd go with that. |

I'd add things carefully, with a thought to what changes are really appropriate or noticeable, and only up to a certain amount. If it were for battle.net, I try to never exceed 1mb, although I could see someone going as high as 1.5 if they were undisciplined about their file add-ons. You can do tricky things, too, to make your add-ins less volumnous. You can reduce the image quality of your .blp's substantially with War3Viewer without obvious loss of visible quality. You can name your icons the same as existing ones, with different directories, to overlap on DIS icons and thus not need to import DIS icons at all. You can make models that use existing skins or skins that use existing models. |

I'd say having two versions would easily be your best bet. Why only cater to one crowd when you can serve both? |

well actually if you would have a nice and working team, it wouldn't cause you that much time since mainly the things you add are replaceable with old wc3 things, just use a small surface of fantasy. But to come to my oppinion in this poll. I think you would have to find a path between both outern ends, Not to much modifications on models and music themes, try to use advanced programs to scale down files, and try to avoid using many custom things like doodads, or spell's, I think this is the best and most simple way out of your problem. greets /Warnicro/ |
