Story Forum Contest Ideas

Yeah, you read the title right. I am looking for ideas for a semi-weekly contest within the story forum. The idea of the contest would be to first submit a story (following the rules of the contest of course) within the week's deadline. The second half would be people voting on people's suggestions. The winner of the contest would get their entry stickied for two weeks until the next winner comes along. Additionally, the winner gets to choose the next topic that you write about (from the list of suggestions, anyways).

Some ideas I am thinking of include

• Fictional Short Story (under 1000 words)
• Very Short Story (under 300 words)
• Humorous Story
• Action Story
• Poem
• Short Poem (Under 100 words)
• Different Story (not following the normal story format)
• Warcraft History Story

Anything you guys want to add?

Omg. This is so up my alley, it isn't even funny. Ok then, here are some extra ideas:

Different story (This would include stories that do not follow the regular format, examples include diaries, letters, etc.)
History story about warcraft.

Sounds interesting. We should also do something like a monthly contest or so for big stories in a lot of parts (e.g. The Infiltration, Ghoul's Diary, etc.)

That is a good idea, like best overall story.

Biography. (this does not actually have a plot, it is simply a text describing the events of one character's life)
Illustrated story (best example: Comic strip)


And I think we should have something at the end of each year or every six months or something that would be kinda like the academy awards, only for stories.

I like the award idea, it should be every month though, because we churn out so many stories.

Yes, good plan, we will ahve a monthly, semi- annually, and then a yearly contest where we nominate the best!

Or we could just make it WAY more simple this way:
- We vote every WEEK for a best story (not 376456 awards, this would be way too confusing, this place is not the story galore bonanza :/ )
- We vote every MONTH for a best novel (and not 376456 awards again...)

This would make it more simple, don't you think so?
But it's just an idea, bleh...

So, this is just a contest to name one story 'the best'? If that is so, that "story" is being created just specially for this, or is it being picked out from the list of stories that are available at the moment here in the forum?

I think we should all write our stories like we normally do, and then we get nominated by the others for various awards.

First of all sorry for not getting back to yall sooner, my internet was out >.<

Well, here is my idea so far.

1) Every other week, we have a competition about a story that is specially submitted just for this contest. I might be able to get RodOfNOD to give some rep to the winner, and he also mentioned something about "real prizes" depending on how many people we get to submit. What these are (and exactly what he means) will probably be revealed later.

2) Every MONTH we have a contest for best story in the forum. (eg, on first page or at least an update in 1 week) The rewards would probably be the same, but we might get a panel of judges to do this one. (heck we might have that panel for the first contest too, but we'll see eh?)

And I could sticky the winner's thread for a week or two as a bonus prize. (More attention :P)

I think this "Panel" should always be the same. Perhaps we could borrow from "American Idol" and select three judges to critique it. Perhaps 5 or something. Always has to be odd number though. I like three.
