Alright, I have been racking my brain trying to think of a map that I could make and be proud of. I think my search is over. Here is a brief opening. You and your family lives on an island. You are poor, and need to find a way to make money. Just recently you have heard news about Lordearon needing more supplies required to feed the growing army's of the Alliance. They said they will pay you if you supply them. You look around you and see nothing but water... then it hits you, all the supplies the Alliance needs has been swimming around you. Fish, are what you need. Now you have taken on a new mission, not only to feed your family but to become wealthy, and move away from your island. Welcome to The Fishermans Quest. Now that I have finished the intro and have gotten your attention, I will be telling you about this map. I wanted to make a game were you have to harvest, but you have to do it with haste. I have decided to make it a multiplayer map as well. Lets get to the basics. Basics: You start with nothing more then your house on an island, your wife, and your son. You start with little money, but only enough to buy the tools you will need to start your fishing ways. Goal?, Of course, the object of the game is to make the most money by the end of the game. Whichever player has made the most money by the end of the game wins. Gold can be aquired many, many different ways: selling fish to the Alliance(A good majority of the gold will be gained this way.), the market (This is a questionable one, depending on the responses, it might or might-not be put in.), finding items useable by the Alliance, raise the value of your island and acquiring taxs, building items and selling them, making weapons and selling them, and with the help of you guys; some more ideas. Since like 60% of the map will be water, you will of course have boats to catch fish, travel, go to the island were you sell the items/weapons/fish to the Alliance. I'll say it again, most of the money you will be making will be out of fishing, because it is the fastest and easiest way to make the money. Advanced: This part is things like, making weapons, making items and so on. To make weapons first you need to have all the necessary items required: Hammer, anvil, an oven that can heat the metal, and water to cool the metal (If I am missing something please mention it). You then have to have the items required to make the weapons i.e.: iron, silver, etc... Now for the items part. This is things like tools, and thing required to make you fishing easier. They can also be sold to make a profit. I will describe more on the tools later. Now for raising the value of your island. In order to raise the value of your island, you must make the buildings on it worth more. This can be done through building you house larger, adding more buildings to the island... things like a blacksmith area, or a dock, and things like that. Then every like 5 mins you will get an income of how much your island is worth. Hopefully I can get a leaderboard going that will show all this information. Misc: Since it is the open sea, you will sometimes come across things like whirlpools, dangerous monsters, and of course the weather (Im hoping to do a weather system that will acually affect the fisherman). These will all play a role in how you collect your fish, resouces and so on. Every once in awhile though you might come across a pirate ship ;). Now for the Items and Tools and everything required. Tools: Everything has to be bought in this. So the main island that you go to, to buy, sell and everything is in the middle. First you go there and buy what you can to start your new carrier. You will only have enough money to buy a net and some tools to gut and clean the fish. Eventually you will acquire enough money to buy yourself new tools. The newer ones will obviously be better. The better nets will catch more fish, and you will have knifes to cut the fish faster. I am getting to the end of this description to my map, so I will sumerize. Goal: To be the wealthiest player by the end of a designated time. How can that be done?: Throught fishing and many other things to sell to the Alliance to make a profit. How can you lose?: Don't have the most gold in the end. You can also die. But death isn't the end, you will be revived by your family, but at a costly price. Any, and all help will be appreciated... If you give help and more, you will recieve rep, and credit on the map. I am dedicated to finish this map, this will not be a failed project. ~Azhag~ EDIT: Whoops, can a mod plz move this to the Map Team Gathering. Sry for the incovience. |

Guest | I'll help ya with the cinematics if ya want. >Tinkor Fladian Note: Don't quote a post of such size. |

Sure. There will be only two cinematics, an opening and an ending. When I need you I will PM you, but this won't be for awhile, cause I started this recently. Also I forgot to add, anyone who helps me with this project will get credit for it in the ending cinematics. It will happen like this, each person who helped me will get to choose a unit. I will place that unit on the map, and an ending cinematic will view each unit, then text will show up on the screen saying something like this: Azhag, Creator... Has thought about this idea for a long time and finally got it working because of these people... Then the screen will move over to the next unit, and say their name... like Tinkor, helped with cinematics... and so on. Lets make this list long. ~Azhag~ |

Guest | hmm im not sure about the making weapon ideas, but the rest is really good and unique, i think the market system should be in it, maybe a kind of bartering system, maybe a system that requires some intelligence, so it isnt just all fishing, like, say u can sell Cod at 20g at Azeroth Port, but its in demand at Lorderon and can be sold for 25g, and this changes all the time, so players must predict the sorta shifting and always changing rates, this way ur not just going back and forth to the same port catching the same fish and fishing at the same spot. Another thing could be seasons, certain fish can be found at certain areas, and this changes according to time and seasons, making a time/calendar system would not be hard, and fish could run out at areas, so ppl must move around and try out new areas, you could have alot of boats, more expensive boats are faster, can hold more fish, more durable to weather ect u could add random global events, maybe droughts where certain breeds of fish just dry up for a few months? or a pirate attack and they steal ur fish, or a horrible storm and ur boat gets damaged, damn u could do so much!!!! make it interesting!!! |

So I am assuming you like the idea for my map? Those are great ideas, thanks a lot. I will try to implament a market system. The weapon one was, your right, a questionable one. Lets see what other people think on the idea. Rep added to both of you if I can. |

Guest | yea i think the market would be really good, if ppl were just selling cod to the one port, the price of cod could drop down, this forces players to go out and explore, catch different fish, go to different ports, if u didnt do this, itd just be like, go to one spot, fish, move back to port, then repeat, itd get boring quick, this way, people try and outsmart eachother CAN U FEEL THE TENSION! |

mypluginbaby88: I was going to have it so when the player uses the ability to fish, it will damage the fish. Eventually you won't be able to catch from that spot anymore. After a certain amount of time, the fish will come back. Tinkor: I was going to do a thing, were there would be a rare fish, that could only be caught once, but is very expensive. So if you found and gutted and cleaned the fish, it would be worth a ton. |

It is going to be an ability. You only have to click it once, and it will auto do it over and over, until you give the boat a new order. Not sure how I would do that. I know it is possible though... hopefully someone could help me with that. |

Guest | just have a trigger checking that ur still in a fishing zone and that a fish is the target of the ability once u tell the boat to do something else, the fish wont be the target of the ability anymore |

Here is some screenshots to update my progress. EDIT: P.S. I have made the map Epic size, so I can fit in as much as I can. The first screenshot is of the main market on the island the Alliance hold. The second two are the players home islands. |

Epic size? Don't you think that will be too big? The terrain looks in one word, horrible. It's flat, it does not vary much and does not fit very much to the situation. |

hey hey hey. Its not like this is my final product, I am still working everything out. I like to do a rough of the terrian before I acually start to give it detail. I just gave the screenshots to give an idea on what it will look like, not detail wise. As for the epic size thing, not really considereing most of the time the player will be spending time in his quarter or quadrent of the map. To go from the top left to the middle to sell your goods, at regular price, takes about a min, which is what I was looking for. The player can go to other sides of the map and such, but it will take time. There will be like 5-6 docks throughout the map were you can sell goods. Every "dock" will be a marketbased system, except for the middle, which is always the same price. ~Azhag~ EDIT: You didn't even give me your opinion on the map Flad, I am disappointed. |
