Is there a way of preventing what someone types in the chat box form coming up on screen?

As far as I know, no. And I think there isnt' any way to prevent chat. The most you can do is dock hp for saying stuff since he sprains his throat from trying to talk while silenced or something.

If you are using chat to issue 'secret' commands i can suggest two options.

Best option is to use a dialogue system(those little menu things that come on screen with options) instead as it looks neat and is confidential.

If you for some reason can't simply use the good ol' "REMINDER TO USE OBSERVER CHAT!!!!!"

Spellbooks also seem to work if you've got lots of options you need to pick from.
