Author: Me! This was a story inspired by my trips to two colleges that I went to. I thought that this might happen to people, so, I decided that I should write about it. _____________________________________ Rushing the First Day Knowing how much I wanted to go to Mizzle Mechlin University was one thing, but getting there was another thing. I had just gotten up from bed, my alarm was ringing at 6:00 A.M, but I slapped it and went back to sleep, really without knowing what the heck I was doing. It must of been a reflex of some sort(My dad does it all the time, maybe that's where I got the habit from). Waking up again, hearing my alarm clock not ringing, really woke me up. I screamed, "Crap, I slept in, and it's the first day of college!" I instantly ran to the bathroom and grabbed my towel along the way, ran into the bathroom, took off my clothes, and jumped into the luxerious shower. I grabbed the handle and turned the hot and cold water to the max without caring. I had to do it quickly. I put shampoo in my hair, conditioner, and washed it all off. Then I scrubed myself really fast and hard(My skin turned red). I turned off the water, and got my towel quickly, got my toothbrush, snatched the toothpaste, put some paste on the brush and put it back where I had grabbed it. I began brushing like a maniac, closing my mouth and going out of the bathroom. I ran to my closet and took a pair of boxers, light pants, and a white shirt. I just put them on(like I really cared) and went back into the bathroom, spit out all of the bubbles and liquid in my mouth, washed the toothbrush, turning the water on at the maximum again and put it on the faucet. I ran downstairs and put on my coat and lifted my backpack right onto my back. Perfect. It was 7:56 A.M. My first class started at 8:30. "Geez, it took me that long to get ready?" I whispered to myself. I went right past Mom and Dad and said, "Good bye! I'm late!", opened the door, and shut it behind me, sprinting. Mom and Dad look puzzled. After running for about 6 blocks, I realized that I forgot to put my watch on, and that I left it next to my bed. Great, just great. Now I didn't know what time it was, or knowing how much time I had left to get to MMU. I couldn't care less, and just thought about running, making sure I got there in time. Being late for the first day of college would make me look really bad, lazy, and maybe even a procrastinater. Running in the city now, after about maybe 10 minutes, I remembered that there was an alley way that led to MMU. I suddenly flashed my eyes around the place. I had just missed it about three seconds ago, but I had to save time(even though I kinda wasted time). I stopped myself, almost tripping, and ran the other way around, running to the left towards the alley way. As I ran into the narrow road, I didn't realize how "gunked" it was. I had to becareful, I had to look nice for my first day. I jumped over a hunk of metal, slid on the wall to avoid the broken fence and kept on running. I leaped over a huge brick, which didn't look like it should have been there, then I avoided a satelite dish, which, also shouldn't have been there. I looked at them, but then when I look ahead, I saw a wired fence. Not only that, I tripped and almost fell, until I saved myself my putting both hands onto the floor before my face hit first. Whew, close one. I climbed and jumped over the fence and kept running towards MMU. It was clearly visible, because you could see the logo of the college. I ran into the parking lot, dashing though all the cars that were set aside because of school, damn I wish I had a car. I ran out of the parking and rushed into Barkely Hall. I opened the door quickly and rushed past the first 17 classes on the way. I went to the elevator and pressed the "up" button. I was waiting for about 5 seconds until I saw a clock in the hallway, it said 8:26 A.M. God, I was close, but taking the elevator was taking too long, so, I decided to take the stairs, My class was F-13. From floor A, that was quite a while. I just ran up the stairs. Little did I know it, the elevator had just opened, I heard the *ding*. What bad luck. It was too late to turn back, I had to get to class. Running from stair step to stair step, classroom to classroom, floor to floor, I started feeling my body getting heavy. When I reached the C floor, it was already 8:28 A.M. Did it take me that long? Screw it, I started to run faster. I ran through the D and E floor, but then while running up the stairs to the F floor, I got way too tired, and stopped running fast, but started a slow pace jog. I went though each class, it was already 8:30 A.M. I was doomed. Jogging through classrooms, looking at the right, was F-1, F-3, F-5, F-7, F-9, F-11, F-13. I was there! I stopped right at the door and said outloud, "I'm here!". My teacher said, "Good, now get in your seat." I didn't understand. I sat down, sweating like crazy, my skin was red, and my face... relieved. After getting to all the classes, my teacher from F-13 told me to come see him. He told me what had happened, probably knowing how confused I was. Figured that the teacher had just done the attendence and right when he called my name, I came to class. What a coincidence. Was I lucky or what? |
