Guest | I've seen so many great projects here, so many great maps and concepts. Many of them having very cool game mechanix (like DnD-like, or turn-based). I really respect their makers for their work. *BUT* I've *NEVER* seen an RPG map with a really good DIALOG system! I mean real dialog, with non-linear dialog-options. I have tinkered with it myself for a while. Did a small scenario where you control a peon who walks to different NPCs and talks to them (just small talk, with few options). Well, i'm not very keen on triggers and scripts, so my system was very clunky and too hard to manage (too many trigger actions and conditions). Hmm, perhaps i'll post it sometime, if anyone's interested. UPDATE: here it is: http://dl2.rapidshare.de/files/16869.../smalltalk.w3x Anyways, I just wanted to know if there are such RPG-maps that have good dialog-systems. I would be so glad to play one! |

i can't get what you are saying.. great dialog system? like what? give example.. |

Guest | Examples? Well, have you played real CRPGs? Like Planescape Torment, Baldur's Gate or Fallout? Well, have you seen dialogs there? That's the example. Oh, probably the confusion is caused by the word "dialog".... you probably thought i meant "windows", huh? no-no, me says "dialogs, like VERBAL INTERACTION" ^_^ Conversation! |

I had a map I made that was like what your talking about. It was a glichy system but (being a script writer) the choices were pretty good(kinda like in fallout). Sorry to say I lost the map when my old computer got a virus. I may have put it on a disk though. I can check for ya, but the map wasn't done and I had just finished one town of it. |

Guest | ive made a system like that before, it was just with triggers, worked quite nicely, i had it like, if u were talking to a unit called divine_peon, there would be a variable showing how ur relationship was going with them, depending on the integer of the variable different dialog options would appear to u, also the unit would talk to u differently and say different stuff depending on how they felt about u. i had a skill called persuasion, depending on how good u were at it, u could get extra info and stuff out of the person, special dialog options would appear for u. the relationship was like a point system, if u answered the character correctly, or just kissed ass ur relationship would gain like 2 points, but with some characters if u kiss assed ud lose 2 points cause they did not like ass kissers :D every character had a unique personality and u had to do quests with them, level them up, do side quests for them, and talk to them correctly to boost ur relationship, i had it so relationships would go down over time, so if u didnt talk to someone for awhile, they were cranky! and if u had 2 characters in the "best friend, love" level, theyd get jealous of eachother, POINT SYSTEM 0-10 = hate, the unit would insult u and attack u 10-25 = unit dislikes u, often walks away, ignores u, gives false info 25-40 = unit doesnt quite like u, ends conversations quickly, gives little info 40-60 = neutral 60-80 = good friends, neutral gives u extra info then usual, shares some background of themselves and gives 1-3 side quests 80=100 - great friends or love, gives u hidden special items, abilities. gives u 1 extra ultimate side quest with great rewards |

I played an rpg a while back that seemed to have a pretty good system. Unfortunately it was made in German, and I have not even the slightest knowledge of German, and so I had no idea what I or the NPC's were saying. I did end up getting some free stuff, a raise in prices, and an ambush of thieves because of things I said though. |

Guest | 2 WarRexkilla It'd be great if you could find it and post here. To mypluginbaby88 Good concept, I wonder how well it really worked. I mean, was it clunky, or quite compact? Also, what was the interface like? I made it through chat responses: you press ENTER and type the number of the option. The option being displayed on a leaderboard. By the way, here's my map. ^^ The system, as I said, is quite clunky. But there should be ways of optimizing it, of course. http://rapidshare.de/files/1686901/smalltalk.w3x.html or right here: http://dl2.rapidshare.de/files/16869.../smalltalk.w3x |

well to be honest, i didnt find it clunky, probly because i understood everything and it had a layout goin, but it did take longer to make, i didnt mind tho, i wanted every character to seem real and that they had some depth, it wasnt just a unit u could say w/e to and it wouldnt affect u later in the game, wow metall1x i just looked at ur map, and its a really good idea, i might try something like that, its so crapy having dialog menus pop up on ur screen, ur system lets u lock the camera to the unit ur talking to, and displays the choices, its really good!! |

Guest | Thanks. Oh, i never liked those standart menus... And they are absolutely unacceptable in dialogs. There is one thing to note, tho. The pause / unpause thingie. Well, you certainly shouldn't pause the game while the NPC is speaking, but you just have to do that when the player chooses his reponse. I just sometimes forgot that. Mypluginbaby, are you up to some RPG project? i just thought that someone could use a good dialog system. It seems that there are really few of such around the net. I think that you (or whoever) should combine your "reputation" system and my dialog interface and optimize it. |

Guest | actually i am tinkering around with some things, i want as u said, a original kind of system, there r so many rpgs out i want something new, a new original rpg with different dialog systems, combat, leveling up ect. using ur dialog system and the reputation system, we could make a really good dialog system, where ur attitude towards a character actually affects the game, makes different outcomes edit: im working on a combination of both the systems now, its looking good! |

Guest | Mypluginbaby Hey, if you are serious about implementing the hybrid of my and your systems in your RPG, then I would gladly assist you. Do you have an ICQ? Mine is 28198227. Please knock it on and we'll chat. Preferably, at Saturday: i'll be online the whole Saturday. Also, if anyone else is interested in our dialog-system research, feel free to knock on my icq, too. See, while alone i had little motivation for it, but now since i'm not the only one interested in a new dialog system, it'll be a much more constructive endevour. |

Guest | i dont have icq, i do have msn tho! u should try get it :D we can work on it, and think of some other ideas for custom systems, a truly original rpg could be in the making! |

Guest | So, I guess there are NO maps with good dialog systems currently in existence? Can someone prove me wrong? Anyway, i have some ideas, and probably we could work together with mypluginbaby88. We'll see. |
