- "DOTA" is not the only map ever created. - Your map doesn't need any 'feature' from "dota" to be good - The less stuff similar to stuff from dota your map has the better it will be. - In other words. STOP making threads with HOW do you do XXXX thing like in Dota?. One thing I have to say, I never played Dota! , I don't know what the hell are you talking about when you mention XXX thing like Dota, so please better specify what you want to do instead of saying dota. |

Well, most noobs don't even know what they're looking for and they see a 'really cool map that they like" and they say "Hey, I could make one like it". Also, the "The less stuff similar to stuff from dota your map has the better it will be" remark doesn't make much sense. It isn't very easy at all to find totally new features to put in your map, so you have to borrow them from other maps and make similar features. DotA has great examples for a large variety of spells and , therefore, it's quite normal that some people want to use a spell from the map. |

There spells are redundant and repetitive. All stun, slow and high damage spells. Boring. |

you should put that in forum rules and ip ban anyone who doesn't follow |

Ya, that would be a good idea. Everyone wants to copy off of DotA, don't know why...it ain't really special or anything. Just, good. |

Sometimes when I have a hard-time explaining or conceptualizing a spell I refer to specific elements of skills from DOTA. That doesn't mean I'm trying to copy or anything, just that if you are familar with the reference, you'll get it right away, otherwise I try and explain the whole thing anyways. And DOTA isn't the Satan of all maps, you should give it a try if you've never played it... just DL it from the web and don't tell people you're new until a little into the game, because many people are dicks about new players. |

It's the same thing CS did to half-life: It wasn't a bad game, but it was so popular that few other mods could get a big enough player base to survive. These days, you can play CS or DoD, and that's about it, which is a real shame because there were some awesome ideas out there that died almost entirely because they couldn't get any players. I don't want DOTA to be the only map I can play on BNet, but every DOTA release brings reality a little closer to that hell. |

I second that one, Extrarius. There are a good sum of maps that are better then Dota, but they end up being not being played because of Dota's mass popularity. I remember one time when I was playing a more strategic AOS map with someone I didn't know that played Dota(Easy to tell becuase he said, "This like Dota?"). In only a matter of about 7 minutes, the guy said, "This is for noobs," and left instantly. He also said early in the game, "My hero's hella weak". This gave me the intention that people only play DoTa for three reasons: 1) It is insanely simple, it doesn't need real brain power to play. 2) The items are practically the heroes themselves; They are NEEDED in order to win. 3) There are no counters to heroes practically. All that is needed, is a gang up. Speaking of DoTa, here's my quote that I submitted. "Everytime I join a DOTA game, I wonder why I even joined." It would be nice if I saw more maps like Warchasers. |

I hate cs, dod all the way. :) |

As long as no one says the terrain is crap I'm fine with dota being hated :P |

The irony is, DOTA is the #1 played game. I have never seen your arena hosted Vex, nor any really cleverly made maps. Lets face it, we're trapped in a world of simple minded people. |

IMO we are all trapped in our own desire to make big an complex systems where they are not needed. And also nothing bad about wanting to know how dota stuff works :) I would very much like to mimic, say, omnislash ability at some point ^^ |

Is the site only displaying post dates wrong to me, or are there really a bunch of DotA threads being bumped/revived today? |
