ok im not a noob in terraining, but watching the terrains of people like gitlich, beam phoenix iv and such make me feel like a noob, i cant make terraing better than blizzards standard, so i wondered wich features must be enabled wich things must be done and stuff like that to make terrains of that type.

no, im not saying the features and all that is the only thing that makes you extremly good terrainers.

i think alot of it is experince, ive found with a few things you cant just start out and expect to be amazing over time your skills will gradually get better but there are soem amazing terrainers here who have probably been doing it for a long time, and not just once here and there, and soem use alot of customs doodads and terrains aswell.

In every case, use the miscdata.txt !
With it you can make almost 90° degree raised surfaces and you can raise its height without any limits
[o.k., if you reach a special point, then you get wholes, but then it'S already really high], which is very important for good terrain.
(You can get it by downloading it from "beams most importing terrain tools", or similar called, here in the forum.
But it didn't work for me, so I got it by extracting it from WEU exe.)

I've got a heavily edited Miscdata.txt that does a ton of extra things, including more realistic water.

that's nice, phoe.. :D

i guess creativity is teh best. experiment with doodads. not just the ordinary doodads that are really there for their purpose. i mean like the table.. you can set its maximum size to 4 then the minimum is .1 then make it's x and y size 400 then z size 10. it will make a great wooden floor.

the best experiment you can do is make a doodad based on the abilities. then experiment on its tinting, size, etc. it will be great.

and don't use the normal cliffs too, it's unnatural and very hard to use imo. just use the raise height and plateau tool.

what else....?

use your imagination. heh.

Also visit www.thehubb.co.uk Nasrudin has made some amazing doodads that are up for download there. Also a great tip to abuse is just add thick fog to cover up the background of your terrain, it gives a nice effect. And ctrl and scroll to move the sky back, it looks more natural.

I disagree with the table for a few reasons, in my opinion it looks horrible as a floor. I would find something else to use. In general however he is completely right. Some doodads seem to work better in situations other than what they are intended for.

Also I would suggest avoiding cliches. There are a lot of ideas that are thoroughly overused. If you must use some of the all-too-common ideas, you must at the very least go a step further.

Make sure the "Reset object heights" is NOT selected. This can save hours on big terrains. I learned a little late into terraining. Wasted easily 24 hours of my life...

Oh, and Phoenix. What did you edit specifically in the miscdata.txt?

Water Transperancy Height, Water Transperancy, Wave Creation Height, a few others.

Just jump into ure miscdata.txt with notepad, everything is notationed so you can tell what it does easily.
