Curse of the Magi [RP] -- TEAM MEMBERS WANTED

05-24-2005, 11:05 PM#1
TheBlackMage01
Curse of the Magi RP is a Roleplaying map currently created by TheBlackMage, Timeling, and BaronVonShnider (Terrain Samples).

We are looking for several skilled developers who can benefit the project over a long-term period. Included available positions are terrainer, skinner(s), and modeler(s).

For those wondering if an RP and RPG are the same, it's not. Although the acronyms are astonishingly alike and even stand for the same thing, it's different.

An RPG stands for "Roleplaying Game." It follows a set plot by the creator of the map.

An RP stands for "Roleplay." A roleplay is similar to acting things out in the Warcraft world. Every game will be different, in one game, it may be about two kingdoms going to war over land or in another, the adventures of ________ to the Kingdom of _____ to discover the _______. The possibilities are truly as many as the imagination can generate.

If you think your work rivals others on this forum, or you believe you are as skilled or nearly as skilled as BaronVonShnider (see samples above), then please, feel free to apply and join this map making project.

Um... I think we're gonna need more information?

What exactly do you do in the map? Do you create a setting and RP it out?

It has no defined plot. The plot is made and played out as the players please.

Regardless, more information is still a must.
People now know it's an RP project, but they don't know what they are supposed to imagine.

What will you be doing on this project?

Regardless, if you read the post, it specifically states that the map is dynamic.

The imagination is meant to flow however they feel. I am not the evil plot master who tells you what to imagine. If you still don't get it, it's similar to "United Roleplaying" or "DoBRP." You can probobly run a search on it.

If you use Google to search, make sure to click the "Cache" button since DoBRP is ... erm... dead now.

If you think this project will never get off the ground, think again. We already have some of the most reputable, skilled, Roleplaying map makers on Battle.net, even one of the creators of DobRP and URP.

Doesn't mean it will get finished. :P
Since I have posting in this section of the forums, I have realized that a lot of ideas, sound good, but fail. I can't even garentee that my project will get finished.

Regardless, you need more information. He is trying to help you gather a team, not spite you or anything.
Add information on what you can do, how many different units, buildings, etc. you can have.
The commands you can have, whatever.
A member isn't going to drop everything their doing for you, if you don't give them information on what they will be helping with.
I ask again, will you be doing anything? From what it sounds like, you got a team, but you haven't specified what you will be doing. Kinda sounds like your going to get other people to do work for you.

Ahem?
I am lead trigger, and I started working on this a long time ago with one terrainer and myself.

As I said, and have said again. It is an RP not an RPG. Our commands are extremely similar, if not exactly the same as Demise of Brotherhood RP's (DoBRP's).

If you're intent on knowing every command, I'll give the basics anyways.

Kill - Kill a unit
Remove - Remove a unit

spawn ## (unitname) -- Spawns ## (unit) at the "Spawner"
mnstr ## unitname -- Same as above, excelt gives to hostile.

sfx ### -- First two ##'s are the SFX ID, last # is the attachment point.

item (itemname) - Creates item @ spawner

level ## -- Sets a selected hero's level to ##.

'(ability) -- Makes any unit learn that ability

unitlife ### - Adds life to unit
unitdmg ### - Adds dmg to unit
unitdef ### - Adds def to unit

defeat (playercolor) - Self explanitory, for player 1 only.
timeout (playercolor) - Disables all their commands until you type...
timeback (playercolor) -- See above

size ### - Adjusts the unit's size. 100 being 100%, 200% being 2x normal size.

tint rrrbbbggg -- I think it's red, blue, then green. I'll check later. This adjusts the vertex coloring of the unit. If I type tint 100000000, that'll make the unit 100% red.

'fs -- Face spawner, makes a unit/building face the spawner

give (playername) - Self explanatory
give neutral -- Gives to neutral
give neutralc -- Gives to neutral, keeps color of player.
give hostile -- Gives to hostile
give hostilec -- See give neutralc.

90% of these commands work, and are finished. There are probobly a few I did not list.
Units/Customs
-Can't list them all. We have over 100+.

Teamwork/Organization
Done over Aol Instant Messenger, works well.

Community
Great, large, community, numerous fans from previous versions of the RP. (We're working on CotM 2.0 now).

Being rude isn't all that bad here. When I saw no particular changes, I was already planning on closing it.

RightField, Whitehorn and Pheonix are three of the best modders here on the wc3c. Their reputation varies now from back then, but it doesn't change the fact that they were the best in their job.

But even when they would combine to start a project, there is still not a 100% definite conclusion that it will be finished.

You can't be sure about any project.

Actually, just "trying to help him gather a team" was the only thing I was doing :P

The FAQ tells quite clearly what kind of information you are in need of. If not, then you can guess it yourself.

In other words: people aren't dogs... though I have to double check for some of them.

Several people started "a long time ago" only to see the project fail a month (or two) after the start of the team gathering.

No, Darkhorde is correct; it's an RPG.
RPG stands for R(ole)P(laying)G(ame), and if you could convince me your project isn't a game, I might reconsider.

On a last note. What's with all the triggers?

By the way, I didn't post that quote Fladian.

For those who still can't understand this:
-There is no common sense behind the differentiation of RP and RPG, it's just generally accepted.
-RP has no plot, I can't tell you how every game will be, so stop asking.
-The triggers are to help the players make their own plot, and act it out with others.

If you still don't get what an RP is, ask someone else, I don't need to teach you.

EDIT 1:
HOORAY FOR TEAM MEMBERS
CLARIFYING:

Quote:
Imagine an DnD, where everyone is a Dungeon Master. The world is created during the game. People take on roles, and play them out. These roles don't have to be heroes, like in a traditional RPG. But entire kingdoms.Everyone takes on a role, and interacts with each other. RP maps have so many triggers because they are used to literally shape your world. Like the World Editor, only in-game.

Not much is happening with this thread anyways.
Unless you can start to get members to join your team, I don't think this thread will go anywhere.
