Guest | I am currently working to create a hero arena type map, and am just a little curious about what you guys like and dislike about current arenas being played on battle.net(like Angel, Hero Builder, and Dota). So far, some features that I have put into the map are as follows: -New hero choosing system that I have made myself, it basically allows the player to customize just about everything about their hero. -No super powerfull god characters that ruin game play *cough*AngelArena*cough* -No secret shops that sell ultra powerful items -Heros dont go past level 30, so they don't become too strong -There is an open arena where two heros of oppoising teams can challenge each other at any time. This way, players who dont want to be in duels arent forced too, and others can fight each other any time, without being disturbed by other teammates, or creeps. -Creep bosses scattered around the arena drop items that cast special spells(not so powerful as to make the player a god, but do significantly increase performance) - many others that I am too lazy to post....plz reply with feedback:) |

Sounds good in theory, but shouldn't this be in the map projects forum somewhere? |

Guest | Well Im just gathering ideas, and not actually discussing project creation, so not quite sure. I am also new here, infact that was my first post,so again not quite sure about how things work on these forums. I just found a link here from wc3sear.ch a little while ago.... |

I guess the thread is ok where it is. I would like to adress the issue of balance. This is usually a problem with high level heroes, tomes, choosable abilities too. The current warcraft skills are carefully adjusted to work with 10 level heroes who get 6 stat points per level, usualy 1.5 of agility (1 if it's a caster hero) and 3.2 - 1.8 strength and 3.0 - 1.5 intelligence, with a fixed combination of skills per each hero. You have 30 level heroes and choosable abilities. Unless heroes recieve a lesser stat bonus per level, they are a lot more powerfull than classic warcraft heroes. If you have tomes, then even more so. Passive abilities like critical, evasion and bash are very unbalanced with their war3 stats on non-war3 heroes. I remember playing a map where someone just added two more levels to each ability. Impale just ruled because it's stun duration increases with level. If you can choose your skills, you can combine nasty spells like banish, storm bolt and death coil... So, carefully consider all these issues when making your map, so you don't unintentionally create angel-arena-like super heroes anyway. |
