I use Norton Anti-Virus, it updates itself regularly for new viruses which is a good thing. It also does random checkings when the computer is left on. Both options can be disabled, but its nice to have them. I rarely scan for viruses which is a bad thing, but if I do accidently activate one Norton comes on pretty quick with a block. |

First of all, a firewall is something totally different from a virus scanner. They both stop potential attacks on your computer, but they stop different kinds of attacks in different ways. For a virus scanner, I would reccommend vexira from http://www.centralcommand.com/index.html. Unlike the major anti-virus programs, you don't have to pay for a subscription to the update service (Norton's comes with like a year free and then you are supposed to start paying), and it has most of the stuff the other ones do. You don't need to scan for viruses because you can set it up to scan a file every time the file is read from or every time it is written to, or both, which should catch pretty much every virus. You can also easily set it up to autoupdate as often as you want. For a firewall, I would recomend ZoneAlarm from http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/home.jsp. Not much to say about it cept that the free version is the one I use. I was going to get the professional edition until it meantioned the yearly fee. |

Guest | fire wall only blocks incoming stuff, the virus scanners can kill the viruses. norton is good and should handle most anything, i trust norton. besides just get a mac and you won't have to worry about viruses anymore. |
