Skin Quality

Okay, I am using a single model for my entire terrain. This means the skin needs to be very detailed and high quality in order to produce a good atmosphere in-game. With the limitation of 512x512 I believe im having issues. While a model in 3dsMAX appears fine, once imported in and used as the terrain, the models pixel quality has deteriorated.

Is this due to the wc3 render system, the image quality of the BLP format, the size of the model? Also, is it possible to correct or improve? Perhaps use 2 or 3 512x512 skins, similar to the loading screen model.

Imput would be much apreciated.

A certain amount of detail is usually lost with the blp conversion, yes, but the definition depends also on the uvw map. Can you post some screens of the render in max and the in game?

In Warcraft III you see this:

In 3dsMax you see this:

Maybe you're right, it seems just a conversion problem... oh well, try to export with 100% quality next time.

Is thier a way to change the percentage quality of BLP export from 3dsMax? I was unaware of that...

From max i don't know, but the wc3 viewer has an option to set the conversion quality.

Yes Im aware of that, however I use 3dsMax in order to combine 10 TGA files into one skin. As such I do not have one TGA that I could convert. Hmmm.
