Attachment Point XYZ

I would like to display a special effect at a specific point, basically, an attatchmeant point with an offset of 40.

Is there a way to aquire the XYZ coordinates of an attachment point in-game?

Nope.

You need an extra unit for this stuff

quite true.

however you could ofcourse open the model and check for the xyz of the attachment point there. Then in the game create a dummy unit at that offset-from-the-model-point and change its flying height.

Of course, the position of the attachment point can change as the unit plays it's animations, and there's no way to follow that (except, as Lord Vexorian hinted, by placing another invisible unit with the same model at the wanted offset and attaching the sfx to it).

Hmm, well to be more graphic about the needed effect, I want to cause some weapon effects, such as a bullet shell being released or a smoke cloud at the barrel of the weapon. Of course aquiring the XYZ is simple. The problem is with vertain weapons, the lengths are different. a pistol's effects would be maybe 30 away from the center, whereas for the shotgun it might be 60.

On top of that, the weapons dont have thier own units. The unit is an empty hand, which is then given a buff causing a weapon to be attched as an SFX to the palm of the hand unit.

With this, can you be more specific as to how to go about creating such special effects?
