Sketch Dump

I don't dump sketches much, so to make it seem like I scan more often than I do, I'll be putting up a picture a day!

1) Super hero concept. Note: I had the feet on but the paper I used to scan this wouldn't fit both the face and the body without cropping the feet.

Interesting... you've gotten back to the pencil work.

How long did this take you? because certain parts of it look kind of sketchy... like the hair for example. And on the issue of the hair... the hairline appears to be kind of erratic... usually, you can see where a Widow's peak would form if the hair line started to recede... and that's most often in the middle of the forehead.

Hands: I don't know, maybe it's been a while... but for some reason I keep thinking you used to be better at hands... maybe it's just the change in media that makes it look kind of odd.

I like the piece... but in some parts it's very nicely detailed... and then other parts look a wee bit more elementary. (like the boots, which look kind of flat)

Overall, it just seems to lack the polish that you have in your digital pieces.

Nice work,

Thanks, I need to improve on hair a lot. I did two other hair sketches before settling on one that was at least decent. As for hands, no matter how many studies I do of my own hands, they don't improve much :/ but, that's more motivation. I really need to learn to refine my sketches more.

heh... I'm a lot worse... and I still haven't gotten back into drawing.

The nose looks a wee bit odd... I'd suggest a bit more shading on the right nostril thing... (the nostril is the hole... so I don't know what to call the flesh that makes it). It doesn't look like part of the nose that much right now... at first glance I thought it was just a random line coming up from the mouth.

The right hand is gorgeous... except for the thumb... I think the thing with hands is... that you just have to do it so much that you get used to simplifying the lines and still having detail... you know... like how DA_56 used to do hands... very few lines, but still quite defined. One other thing to remember... when doing a claw type thing with the hand... no two fingers are right next to each other... or parallel... it's all violently curved.

I like the Arcane effects.

The robes should probably have more folds... or minor wrinkles... a baggy piece of clothing is always full of motion. Plus, if he's doing magic... then maybe the robes should flow away from the source of the energy (In this case, probably towards the back).

Keep in mind, these are just suggestions/ramblings.

Good work, and good idea to keep yourself drawing.
